Organizations can request checks, manage renewals, and receive expiration alerts; volunteers can join an online community to find organizations and share checks with multiple nonprofits. Community membership is free, but volunteers pay for their background checks. Checks are updated monthly at no charge during the first year, and most searches return in 24 to 72 hours. Available add-ons include driving records, credit reports, registry checks, federal and civil searches, and personal references. Sharing periods depend on results: 12 months when no criminal history is found, or 30 days when it is. The Complete package includes Locator Select, which covers more than 2,000 booking and incarceration sites representing 73% of the U.S. incarcerated population. Advanced is listed at $19 per check, and Complete at $39 per check; both exclude state, county, and motor vehicle repository fees and have a one-time setup fee. The web platform integrates with Salesforce and Samaritan. Sterling Volunteers says its checks comply with federal and state screening laws and the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
