What Penny is

Penny is tutoring business management software for independent tutors, teachers, tutoring centres, and tutor agencies. It runs locally on Windows and macOS and works offline except for AI and email. Scheduling covers individual and group lessons, recurring timetables, tutor assignments, lesson notes, and weekly agendas. Student and family profiles keep attendance, lesson history, and progress records together. Penny also creates invoices and account statements, tracks payments and outstanding balances, and provides financial reports. For tutor administration, it records hours and rates, manages payroll, and generates payslips. Optional AI tools offer business intelligence, student insights, revenue forecasts, retention analysis, and parent report generation; these use the customer’s Gemini subscription or API key. Penny lists Postmark and Gemini integrations and supports CSV imports. The maker says records remain on the user’s computer and accessible if they stop using the software. Standard costs 380 ZAR a month and includes 150 emails per month. Pro costs 450 ZAR a month, with unlimited email volume subject to the customer’s Postmark plan. A 7-day trial is available, but there is no free plan.
