Oxigraph
Oxigraph is a graph database and toolkit for RDF data and SPARQL.
What Oxigraph is
Oxigraph is a graph database and toolkit for RDF data and SPARQL. It implements SPARQL 1.1 Query, Update, and Federated Query, and can ingest and retrieve formats such as Turtle, TriG, N-Triples, N-Quads, RDF/XML, and JSON-LD. The project provides a Rust library, Python and JavaScript bindings, and a command-line tool that can start an HTTP server.
That server listens by default on localhost:7878 and includes an HTML interface based on YASGUI for running SPARQL requests. REST endpoints support SPARQL queries and updates, as well as RDF dataset access through the SPARQL Graph Store HTTP Protocol. The CLI can be installed through Cargo, Docker, PyPI, conda-forge, or prebuilt binaries. Pyoxigraph offers in-memory and disk-based stores, and oxrdflib provides rdflib stores using Pyoxigraph. Oxigraph is free and dual-licensed under Apache License 2.0 or MIT, at the user's option. Its stated limitation is that SPARQL query evaluation has not yet been optimized.
Good
- Implements SPARQL query, update, and federated query.
- Supports a range of RDF formats.
- Offers Rust, Python, and JavaScript interfaces.
- Includes a local web interface and REST endpoints.
- Free under Apache 2.0 or MIT.
Watch out
- SPARQL query evaluation is not yet optimized.
- Protecting server endpoints may require separate authentication setup.
Who it suits
Oxigraph suits developers and teams building RDF and SPARQL applications, especially those working in Rust or Python. Its library and standalone crates are also intended for reuse in other Rust projects.
Verdict
Oxigraph offers several ways to work with RDF and SPARQL, from libraries to a command-line server. Its documented query-evaluation limitation is worth considering for workloads where query performance matters.
