Move to iOS is a free app for transferring data from an Android device to a new iPhone or iPad. Supported content includes contacts, messages, photos and videos, files, settings, bookmarks, mail accounts, WhatsApp messages and media, voice memos, call history, and calendars. Some free apps may also move if they are available in both Google Play and the App Store and support the transfer feature. The transfer can use a temporary Wi-Fi network or a direct USB-C cable, which Apple says can be faster. Pairing uses a six- or ten-digit code, and the iOS device creates a temporary Wi-Fi network. If iOS setup is already complete, Apple says the device must be erased and set up again before using this transfer process. Music, books, and PDFs need to be moved manually, and all transferred content must fit on the new device. Apple says to keep both devices nearby and powered, and leave the app onscreen until the transfer finishes. Google Play's developer-provided data safety details say data is encrypted in transit and not shared with third parties. Location is listed as required to establish the Wi-Fi connection; optional permissions can be declined, though some features may then be unavailable.
