KEEL
KEEL is a free Java software suite for data mining, intended for research and education.
What KEEL is
KEEL is a free Java software suite for data mining, intended for research and education. It supports regression, classification, clustering, and pattern mining, with a catalog of 518 algorithms. Its preprocessing methods cover transformations, discretization, instance and feature selection, and noise filtering. In the graphical interface, users can build experiments from multiple datasets and algorithms; the suite generates files for running them offline. A statistical library provides parametric and nonparametric tests for comparing results. Additional modules address imbalanced learning, semi-supervised learning, nonparametric statistical analysis, and multiple instance learning. KEEL converts CSV, ARFF, and plain-text datasets into its own format. A basic dataset package is included, and a linked repository contains more than 600 datasets. The software is open source under GPLv3, and source code and a binary for release 3.0 are offered. It runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X with Java 7 or later; a Java Virtual Machine is required. Documentation is available for integrating new algorithms.
Good
- Free and open source under GPLv3
- 518 listed algorithms across data-mining tasks
- Includes preprocessing and statistical analysis
- Imports CSV, ARFF, and plain-text datasets
- Supports Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X
Watch out
- Requires a Java Virtual Machine
- Release 3.0 binary is dated 2018-04-09
- Experiments run offline on a machine
Who it suits
KEEL suits researchers and educators working with data-mining algorithms and offline experiments. It is also relevant to users who want to compare algorithm results using statistical tests.
Verdict
KEEL brings data-mining methods, experiment design, and statistical comparisons into one Java suite. Its Java runtime requirement and dated listed binary are important considerations when choosing it.
