Islet

What Islet is

Islet is a free, open-source journal app for keeping text and media entries in separate notebooks. Entries can include photos, video and voice, and each notebook has its own chat-like thread. A calendar lets users revisit entries by date. Islet does not require sign-up or personal details. It is available for iPhone, iPad and Android, with a browser extension for Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers. Users choose S3 or WebDAV for storage; those services store only ciphertext, and Islet says it does not put its own server between users and their chosen storage. Sync is required when entries need to be used across devices. Android users download and install the APK directly, while the iPhone and iPad app is available through the App Store. Islet says users are the sole owners of their data and describes privacy and preventing data loss as core design goals. Its end-to-end encryption and user-selected storage options may appeal to people who want control over where journal data is kept.
