What Current is

Current is a virtual instrument plug-in for synthesis and sampling, designed to run inside a compatible digital audio workstation rather than as a standalone app. Its sound engine combines wavetable oscillators, an additive sub oscillator, a sampler, filters, and FM/AM modulation. The effects rack supports up to nine reorderable effects, and users can save rack presets. MIDI tools include an arpeggiator and chord generator with controls for key, scale, and voicing. Stream lets users browse and download presets and sounds from within the plug-in.

Current is compatible with Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, and Pro Tools. It supports VST2 and VST3, AU on macOS, and AAX for Pro Tools, and requires a 64-bit DAW with third-party plug-in support. It runs on macOS 10.11 or higher, including native Apple silicon, and Windows 10 or higher. Internet access is required for activation and browsing new Stream content, though downloaded material can be searched and used offline. All Access costs $15 a month and includes Current, released standalone effect plugins, and expansion packs, with subscribe-to-own ownership credit. The seven-day trial starts that program automatically when it ends.
