What Cloudflare Magic Firewall is
Cloudflare Magic Firewall, now listed as Cloudflare Network Firewall, is a firewall-as-a-service for filtering unwanted traffic before it reaches office networks and cloud infrastructure. It examines Layer 3 and Layer 4 traffic across headquarters, branch offices and virtual private clouds, running on Cloudflare’s global network without customer-managed firewall appliances. Rules can match protocol, port, IP address, packet length and bit fields, with changes propagating in less than a minute. Configuration is available in one dashboard or through a programmable Terraform-compatible API, and per-rule analytics appear in the dashboard and GraphQL API. Traffic is allowed by default until blocked, rules run in order, and network firewall rules follow Cloudflare DDoS mitigations. Standard features include Cloudflare WAN integration, while Magic Transit includes DDoS protection. Advanced paid options include threat-intelligence lists, geoblocking, ASN filtering, packet captures, protocol validation, Secure Web Gateway filtering and IDS.
