What Clave is

Clave is a desktop app for organizing coding-agent sessions in tabs, groups, and project workspaces. It supports Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity, Pi, plain terminals, and remote agents over OpenClaw. Claude Code and Codex can use a chat view with rendered answers, grouped tool calls, attachments, and a model menu. Groups retain sessions, folders, saved terminals, and prompts, while workspace files can serve as project templates. A side panel combines a file tree, editors, HTML preview, and git tools for diffs, history, and one-click sync. Clave includes an MCP server with twenty-three tools for agents to manage tabs, launch groups, pin pages, open files, and message other tabs. Users can enter secrets for one-action injection or write them to a file; the value does not pass through the transcript or get read back by the agent. Clave runs locally without an account or cloud backend, and remote sessions and files are available over SSH and SFTP. It is free and open source under the MIT License. The macOS app supports Apple Silicon and Intel; the early Windows build has fewer capabilities and an unsigned installer.

Good

  • Supports several coding agents and plain terminals
  • Groups retain sessions, files, and prompts
  • Includes MCP tools for agent control
  • Runs locally without an account or cloud backend
  • Free and open source under the MIT License

Watch out

  • Windows installer is not code-signed
  • Some capabilities are Mac-only for now
  • Early Windows build requires Windows 10 or later on x64

Who it suits

Clave suits developers running multiple coding agents, teams sharing project group defaults, and builders of agent tooling. Its Windows build is early access, while the macOS app includes every feature.

Verdict

Clave combines agent sessions, project workspaces, and local development tools in a free, open-source app. Mac users get the full feature set; Windows users should note the early-build limitations.
