There have been rumors of a Xiaomi-Leica partnership for a long time now, and till now nothing had materialized. But now Kacper Skrzypek, an MIUI beta tester has provided some evidence in the form of code images containing new strings related to Leica filters on Xiaomi’s MIUI Gallery Editor app.
These strings he discovered were present in the MIUI Gallery Editor app’s version 0.7.5, and point to new effects that are said to be available when editing photographs and videos on the upcoming Xiaomi smartphones. The leaked strings reference four filters named after the camera company, Leica Monochrom, Leica Monochrom HC (High Contrast), Leica Natural, and Leica Vivid. This new leak solidifies the earlier rumors that suggested that the smartphone maker will be announcing a new phone with Leica-branded cameras on board in the near future.
For the uninformed readers, Leica is a german lens maker who has been at the forefront of making cameras. They had a long-standing partnership with the Chinese smartphone giant Huawei which saw the brand launch a handful of flagship phones with Leica branded tech on board. This is certainly an exciting development, something we will track very closely for you. There is a possibility that we could see Xiaomi Leica’s partnership materialize on the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Ultra flagship smartphone.
