Suno owns the AI music service, but who owns a song you make with it depends on the plan you used and what you contributed. Suno says songs made while you are a paid subscriber are yours to keep and use, including in videos or an album; its Pro plan includes commercial-use rights. Songs made on the Free Plan do not include commercial rights. That distinction matters if you create on an Android phone and plan to publish or monetize the result.
Who Owns Suno, The Company?
Suno is a company founded in 2022 and headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. The service is an AI music workspace that can generate complete songs with vocals, lyrics, instrumentation and production. It is available on the web, iOS and Android. The company and the music you create are separate questions: Suno operates the platform, while its stated terms for paid subscribers say they can keep and use songs created during their subscription.

Who Owns A Song You Generate?
Suno’s statement is direct: songs you create as a paid subscriber are yours to keep and use, including as background music in videos or for publishing an album. Suno also says the Pro plan includes full commercial rights. Treat that as the platform’s stated permission for eligible creations; it does not establish that every generated song is protected by copyright or that every use is permitted under other services’ rules.
The Free Plan has no commercial rights according to the product information. So a free generation may be useful for exploring a musical idea, but do not assume you can monetize, sell or use it commercially. Check Suno’s current terms and your account’s plan before using any track in a paid project, sponsored video, client work or release. The available information does not spell out every edge case, such as what happens to rights after a subscription ends, so verify that detail with Suno.
Does “Yours” Mean Copyrighted?
No. The U.S. Copyright Office says a work generated entirely by AI is not copyrightable under its January 29, 2025 report. A prompt alone does not make the user the author. If a work combines generated material with human-authored material, only the human-authored parts may be protected. Suno’s permission to use a paid-plan song and copyright protection are different questions: platform rights do not themselves establish copyright ownership.

If you register a work containing more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material in the United States, the Copyright Office says you must disclose that material and describe the human author’s contribution. If copyright status matters for a release, keep clear records of what you wrote or performed yourself and what Suno generated, and consult the official guidance rather than assuming a prompt gives you authorship.
How To Make A Song With A Clear Human Contribution
Suno supports prompts that generate vocals, lyrics, instrumentation and production, and offers editing, remixing, extensions and section replacement. Those capabilities can help you shape a draft, but the directory information does not establish that any particular edit makes a track copyrightable. Use the workflow as a creative process, not a guarantee of legal status:

- Write your own musical brief. Describe the intended mood, energy, vocal character, instruments and structure in your own words. For example: “A restrained verse with sparse piano, then a brighter chorus with layered percussion; reflective lyrics about a late-night train ride.” This is an illustrative prompt, not a guaranteed result or a claim about a particular genre capability.
- Generate a draft and listen critically. Decide which parts serve your idea and which need changing. Suno’s listed editing and section-replacement tools may help revise a song; availability can depend on the plan, so check Suno’s current plan details.
- Add and document your own work. You could write or revise lyrics, perform a part, or make an arrangement decision yourself. Keep the original notes and revisions. These steps do not guarantee copyright protection, but the Copyright Office distinguishes human-authored contributions from material generated entirely by AI.
- Check your plan and intended use before release. Confirm commercial permission in Suno’s current terms, then check the rules of the video, streaming or distribution service where you plan to publish.
What Xiaomi, Redmi And POCO Users Should Check
Because Suno is listed as available on Android, Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO users can consider it on an Android phone. The available information does not identify compatible phone models, minimum Android versions, regional availability, or differences between the Android app and web workspace. Check Suno’s site or the relevant app listing for those specifics before relying on a phone-based workflow.
For a practical mobile session, prepare a short brief in your notes app before opening Suno: intended use, mood, vocal or instrumental direction, and a simple verse-to-chorus shape. Generate a draft, listen on headphones, and save your own written changes separately. This is a suggested way to organize your work, not a claim about a Suno mobile feature. Suno’s Free Plan is listed with 50 credits per day and an 8-minute audio-upload limit; the Pro Plan is listed at $8 per month with 2,500 credits per month and a 20-song monthly download limit. Confirm current pricing and plan terms with Suno before subscribing or planning a release.

Voices, Covers And Other People’s Material
A paid plan’s commercial-use permission is not blanket permission to imitate a real singer, use someone else’s recording or lyrics, or make a cover. The supplied Suno information does not establish detailed rules for voice imitation, covers, samples or permissions from rights holders. Get consent where needed and check Suno’s terms and the rules of the service where you will publish. Spotify’s September 25, 2025 policy announcement says vocal impersonation is allowed only when the impersonated artist has authorized it. That is a Spotify policy; it does not define Suno’s rules or settle the rights question for other platforms.

What To Remember Before Publishing
- Suno operates the service; Suno says paid subscribers can keep and use songs they create while subscribed.
- The Free Plan does not include commercial rights, while Suno says Pro includes them.
- Commercial permission from Suno does not automatically make an entirely AI-generated song copyrightable.
- For human contributions, keep records and check applicable registration requirements; for voices, covers and samples, get consent where needed and check each platform’s terms.
For current plan terms, start with Suno; for the U.S. copyright distinction, consult the U.S. Copyright Office’s AI report.
