Overview

Zoho People is an HR platform for organizations that want employee administration and core lifecycle functions in one product. It is best suited to teams that need records, leave, onboarding, performance management and time tracking across web and mobile. Its free five-user plan lowers the barrier to trying those functions, while the five-user minimum on every named paid tier is an important constraint for smaller teams.

Key features

Employee records: Keeps employee information in the HR platform, a useful foundation for teams consolidating basic administration.
Time-off management: Covers leave administration; teams choosing Zoho People for leave should weigh that against the paid-tier minimums if they need more than the free plan allows.
Onboarding: Includes an employee onboarding function, bringing a recurring lifecycle task into the same product as records.
Performance management: Adds performance processes alongside administrative HR, making the package broader than a records-only tool.
Time tracking: Provides time-tracking functionality, though no further workflow or quota detail is established.
Mobile apps: iOS and Android access complement the web platform for users who need mobile access.

Pricing

The Free plan is free and is capped at 5 users. That is a practical entry point for a small team, but the cap makes it unsuitable for organizations that need more than five users without moving to a paid tier. A 30-day trial is also offered.

Essential HR, Professional, Premium and Enterprise each have a minimum of 5 users and custom pricing. The paid-from figure is 1.25 /user/mo, but it is not tied to a named tier, so buyers should confirm which plan and terms that starting price covers before budgeting. The named tiers cannot be compared on included features or price from their names alone.

Plan	Price and limit	Fit
Free	Free; 5 users	A small team evaluating or using the product within the five-user cap.
Essential HR	Custom pricing; minimum 5 users	Teams considering a paid tier should confirm its inclusions and price.
Professional	Custom pricing; minimum 5 users	Teams considering a paid tier should confirm its inclusions and price.
Premium	Custom pricing; minimum 5 users	Teams considering a paid tier should confirm its inclusions and price.
Enterprise	Custom pricing; minimum 5 users	Organizations that need to establish pricing and fit directly.

Platforms

Zoho People supports web, iOS and Android. This makes it accessible from browsers and mobile devices, though no platform-specific feature differences are established.

Who it's for

Zoho People is a sensible shortlist option for small and growing teams seeking employee records plus leave, onboarding, performance management and time tracking in a single HR product. The free plan is most relevant to teams of five or fewer; organizations above that size should account for the five-user minimums and confirm paid-tier pricing. It is a weaker fit for buyers who need transparent, tier-by-tier pricing before contacting the provider.

Pros and cons

Pro: The feature set spans employee records, time off, onboarding, performance and time tracking, which can bring several HR tasks into one platform.
Pro: A free plan for up to five users gives very small teams a no-cost starting point.
Pro: Web, iOS and Android support offers access across desktop and mobile devices.
Con: The free plan stops at five users, limiting its usefulness as a team grows.
Con: All named paid plans carry a five-user minimum, and each uses custom pricing; the starting-price figure is not assigned to a specific tier.

Alternatives

IceHrm is another freemium HR option, with web, mobile, API and self-hosted platforms.
Swingvy has annual Premium and Payroll plans priced at 4.25 SGD per month, starting with five users.

Verdict

Zoho People is a strong candidate for small teams that want several core HR functions under one roof, particularly if five users fit the free plan. Its main drawback is the uncertainty around paid-tier pricing and inclusions, alongside the five-user minimum across those tiers. Choose it for breadth and the small-team free option; look elsewhere if a clearly priced paid plan or a larger free allowance is central to the decision.
