Overview

Testportal is an online assessment platform for quizzes, tests, exams, and certifications. It is best suited to educators and organizations that need varied question types, controlled delivery, and respondent reporting. Its breadth is useful, but result quotas make plan choice central for recurring or large-scale programs.

Key features

Questions can be made from scratch, imported from PDF or Word, or generated with AI. Single- and multiple-choice, self-grading short answers, and descriptive open responses cover both automatically scored checks and assessments needing human review. Automatic and manual scoring, partial or negative points, bonus points, pass marks, grade ranges, and multidimensional scoring let administrators tailor evaluation, though open responses bring manual work.

Reporting includes results tables, respondent reviews, scores by question, pass rates, histograms, grade distributions, average answer times, answer popularity, and cross-test results. Live monitoring and progress statistics help track active assessments; certificates support credential-oriented programs. Business and paid education plans export PDF, XLSX, and CSV reports, while Free EDU exports PDF only.

Delivery options include public links, email verification, group passwords, individual access codes, printable sheets, website embeds, Microsoft Teams, and API. The API can authorize respondents, start tests, and return results through another system. Teams includes Azure Active Directory authorization and live webcam monitoring. Respondents need no Testportal account and can resume after interruptions, reducing access friction. The service says it supports up to 1,000 simultaneous respondents and asks customers with larger groups to contact it.

Testportal states that it is GDPR ready and offers a customized data processing agreement. Its Microsoft Azure infrastructure includes anti-DDoS techniques, auto-scaling, redundancy, SSL, and encryption. These are relevant assurances for organizations handling assessments, while the actual suitability of a deployment still depends on its own requirements. Support is offered by email with human staff.

Pricing

Free EDU costs 0.00 USD per free, forever, and stores 100 results. It includes advanced test configuration and reporting, additional user accounts and collaboration, and customization, making it a sensible starting point for education use that stays within the storage cap. Free EDU users can download PDF reports.

Standard costs 35.00 USD per month and allows 30 results/month. It includes AI question creation, PDF/Word import, analytics and reporting, certificates, and API integration. It suits smaller programs that need those tools, but the quota is restrictive for sustained use. PRO costs 79.00 USD per month for 300 results/month, with the same listed feature set; MAX costs 129.00 USD per month for 3,000 results/month. These tiers scale the response allowance without changing the core listed capabilities.

EDU costs 39.00 USD per year and provides unlimited results storage, advanced test configuration and reporting, additional accounts and collaboration, and customization. It is the low-cost fit for education needs that align with those features; paid education plans can export PDF, XLSX, and CSV. MAX Customized starts at $159 / month and includes unlimited results/month, the Standard-family tools, plus additional users and collaboration. EDU School and EDU University use custom pricing and offer unlimited results storage, advanced configuration and reporting, collaboration, and customization; EDU School is limited to district deployments.

The pricing note includes a 14-day trial. Compare storage-based education plans with monthly result quotas carefully: they are different limits, and a suitable tier depends on the assessment program's volume and user needs.

Platforms

Testportal supports web, Android, iOS, and an extension. Microsoft Teams access is provided through an add-in.

Who it's for

Its stated audiences include HR, training, certification, sales and customer service, language schools, teachers, schools, and universities. The mix of scoring controls, monitoring, and integration options is strongest for teams administering structured assessments rather than informal, one-off quizzes.

Pros and cons

Pros: Multiple creation routes and question formats support both quick, self-scoring checks and more judgment-based assessments.
Pros: Broad reporting, live monitoring, and certificates serve programs that need to review performance or document completion.
Pros: Account-free respondent access, resumption after interruptions, and multiple publishing channels reduce barriers to taking tests.
Cons: Standard's 30 results/month and PRO's 300 results/month can constrain growing programs; higher-volume monthly use requires MAX or a customized plan.
Cons: Free EDU's 100-result storage cap and PDF-only exports limit ongoing recordkeeping and reporting flexibility.
Cons: The stated simultaneous audience limit is 1,000; larger events require contacting the company.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, see Quiz Maker Software and Assessment Software.

FlexiQuiz is worth comparing if its free tier's 20 responses/month, 20 responses per quiz, unlimited quizzes, and 10 questions per quiz better match a small program.
SpeedExam may suit a modest exam workload: its free plan allows 25 exam attempts per month and 2,000 questions.
Crowdpurr is an alternative for web-based experiences with a free Basic plan capped at 20 participants, 15 questions, and three simultaneous experiences.
ProProfs Quiz Maker is another freemium option with a free plan capped at 12 questions and 90-day report history.
Classtime is a fit to consider for classroom sessions, with a free Basic plan allowing up to 40 students simultaneously and unlimited questions and sessions.
Interact may suit quiz-led lead capture; its free plan allows 100 completions/month across two quizzes, with no integrations and Interact branding.
ScoreApp is an option for scorecards, with a free plan for one live scorecard and up to 10 responses per month.
TestGorilla is another freemium assessment option.

Verdict

Choose Testportal if you need a configurable assessment workflow with detailed reporting, live monitoring, and several ways to deliver tests. It is particularly compelling for education users whose needs fit the EDU features and storage model. Look elsewhere if your response volume outgrows the monthly quotas, your audience exceeds 1,000 at once, or your program needs a different free-tier allowance.
