Overview

Supernotes gives each note a deliberately small footprint, then relies on tags, nesting, links, search, and graph views to make a collection navigable. That structure can help people maintain a connected reference library rather than a stack of isolated documents. The trade-off is a 1,200-character soft limit per card: useful for focused entries, but a constraint when a note needs room to develop.

Key features

Cards support equations, tables, images, checklists, and emojis, so they can hold more than plain text while remaining concise. Backlinks and graph views make relationships between notes visible, and the outliner organization model adds another way to structure material. These tools favor personal knowledge management over long-form document drafting.

Offline access is practical for working without a connection: changes merge automatically and sync once a device is online again. Sharing supports both read-only access and collaborative editing in real time, making cards useful for joint work as well as private notes.

Imports cover Obsidian, Roam Research, Google Keep, Notion, and Markdown; exports are available as PDF, JSON, or Markdown. That makes moving notes into or out of Supernotes more flexible. Integrations include Telegram, Raycast, Pipedream, email, SupaSend, and Funnel; Zapier, Make, and Tally are marked as coming soon. An API is offered for building integrations, with full API and integrations included on Unlimited.

Notes are encrypted in transit with SSL and at rest with AES-256. The privacy policy says Supernotes does not own or sell user data or use it for advertising, and staff do not access note content without express permission during support. Support is available through the in-app messenger; Unlimited subscribers receive priority support.

Pricing

Starter is free and caps users at 100 cards. That is enough to try the card-based approach or keep a deliberately small collection, but frequent note-makers may reach the ceiling and need another plan.

Unlimited costs £6.00 per month, billed £72 billed annually. It includes unlimited cards, AI Superpowers, full API and integrations, and priority support. It is the straightforward choice for a growing collection or anyone who needs those expanded capabilities. There is no free trial, so Starter is the way to assess the app before paying.

Platforms

Supernotes supports web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, as well as an API. Its cross-platform reach pairs well with offline access and automatic syncing, though the same card limit applies regardless of device.

Who it's for

Supernotes is strongest for individual users who want a compact, interconnected personal knowledge base and value offline work, import and export options, or selective collaboration. It is a weaker fit for people whose notes regularly exceed a short card or who need to stay within 100 cards without upgrading.

Pros and cons

Pros: Linked cards, backlinks, tags, nesting, search, and graph views offer several ways to connect and revisit information.
Pros: Offline changes merge and sync automatically when connectivity returns.
Pros: Imports from five named sources and exports in PDF, JSON, or Markdown support moving a collection between tools.
Cons: Starter stops at 100 cards, which can be restrictive for an expanding library.
Cons: The 1,200-character soft limit makes cards less suitable for long-form notes.
Cons: Unlimited is billed annually at £72, and there is no free trial.

Alternatives

Choose Notion instead if you want pages, blocks, databases, and basic collaboration on its free individual plan. Zoho Notebook is an alternative with a free plan capped at 500 MB of cloud storage, 20 note versions, and 3 MB per notecard. Consider Capacities if its free plan's 5 GB total media uploads and 100 MB monthly uploads afterwards suit your needs better.

Craft offers a free plan with 1,500 blocks, 1 GB storage, and a 25 MB media upload limit; choose it if those document-oriented allowances are a better fit. Goodnotes has a free plan capped at three notebooks, three text documents, three whiteboards, three folders, and 100 MB storage. HyNote offers a free plan with sessions up to 120 minutes, audio recording and transcription, professional templates, and file uploads. Mem Agent is another freemium option. For more choices, browse Personal Knowledge Management Software, Note-taking apps, or AI Note-Taking Apps.

Verdict

Choose Supernotes if you want a portable, offline-capable system of concise, interlinked notes, with room to collaborate and move data in or out. Its strongest reason to look elsewhere is equally clear: the 100-card free cap and short-card format can frustrate anyone building a large library or writing at length.
