Overview

Sellwire handles product links, checkout, payments and download delivery, while sellers bring their own store or website. That division is practical if you already have an audience and storefront; it is the wrong fit if you want checkout and delivery bundled with a store builder.

It supports goods such as plugins, scripts, ebooks, songs, videos and photos. The file limit is 300MB, and Sellwire is a poor choice for large downloads such as video files. For products that change over time, sellers can upload multiple versions; customers can retrieve older ones and receive alerts when an update arrives.

Key features

Orders and reporting: Order tracking, receipt pages, file-level and overall reports, plus a six-month breakdown, support routine sales follow-up. The reporting is useful for monitoring activity, though the six-month view is a bounded period rather than an unlimited historical breakdown.
Promotions: Fixed-amount and percentage coupons can be limited by time or redemption count, and product upgrades offer another way to encourage purchases.
Payments and integrations: PayPal and Stripe are supported, with no additional Sellwire fee on top of processor fees. Google Analytics, Campaign Monitor, Slack, Mailchimp and FreeAgent are also listed as integrations.
Licensing and tax: Software sellers can generate license keys, support renewals and validate licenses through the API. EU VAT MOSS support and VAT MOSS and EC Sales List reporting for B2B sales are useful for sellers dealing with those obligations.
Privacy: Sellwire says it will not sell, rent or share collected personal information with third parties.

Pricing

The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and permits one file. It is a narrow way to start, not a practical choice for a catalog: sellers need a paid tier as soon as they offer more than one file.

Solo: 9.00 USD per month, billed per month, for up to 10 files, unlimited file versions and unlimited orders. This is the sensible entry tier for a small catalog; the cap is on distinct files, not orders or versions.
Agency: 29.00 USD per month, billed per month, for up to 50 files, unlimited file versions and unlimited orders. It suits sellers whose catalog has outgrown Solo, without imposing an order quota.
Enterprise: 89.00 USD per month, billed per month, for unlimited files, unlimited file versions and unlimited orders. This is the tier for larger catalogs; the higher monthly price buys file capacity rather than a higher order allowance.

The paid plans are billed monthly and support recurring payments. The stated transaction fee is 0%, meaning Sellwire adds no fee; PayPal or Stripe processing fees still apply. The free plan's one-file cap and the universal 300MB per-file limit are the main constraints to check before committing.

Platforms

Sellwire is available on the web. Its API supports license validation, but the service still expects sellers to provide their own store or website.

Who it's for

Sellwire is a good match for an independent creator or software seller with an existing storefront, a modest downloadable catalog and a need for version updates, coupons or license keys. It is less suitable for someone starting without a site, or for a business whose products exceed 300MB per file. Sellers who need more than 10 files must also budget for Agency or Enterprise rather than treating Solo as a growing-catalog plan.

Pros and cons

Pro: Unlimited orders and file versions on every paid plan avoid order-volume and update-count ceilings.
Pro: No added Sellwire transaction fee keeps the platform's charge separate from payment processor fees.
Pro: License generation and API validation, alongside renewal support, make the service more suitable for software than a basic download link alone.
Con: The free plan allows only one file, so it is not a workable free storefront for a multi-product catalog.
Con: The 300MB maximum excludes many large media products, including the large videos Sellwire itself warns against.
Con: Sellers must bring a store or website; Sellwire is checkout and delivery, not a complete storefront.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, browse Digital Product Selling Platforms.

Bandcamp is worth considering for artists who want a direct-to-fan store, messaging, automatic fan notifications, listening parties and live streaming, with a free artist account.
SellApp may suit sellers who want a store builder, custom domain and broad payment-method support on its free Standard plan, rather than Sellwire's separate-store approach.
Sellix is an option for sellers who want a free plan with unlimited shops, products, orders and customers, and also need to sell physical or subscription products alongside digital goods.
Gumroad is an alternative for sellers who want both direct sales and a discover marketplace, though its stated direct-sale and marketplace fees make the cost structure different from Sellwire's zero platform fee.
Payhip is worth comparing if you want unlimited products and revenue on its free plan, rather than Sellwire's one-file free tier.
Lemon Squeezy may suit sellers who prefer no monthly charge for ecommerce features and accept a 5% + $0.50 per-transaction fee.
InPlayer is an alternative with custom pricing that scales from one subscriber to millions.
Shoprocket is a paid option with a free trial and a Starter plan at 29.00 USD per month, billed monthly, which includes unlimited products, annual sales volume and staff or team members.

Verdict

Choose Sellwire if you already have a storefront and need straightforward digital checkout, delivery and sales tools without an added platform transaction fee. Its strongest case is the combination of unlimited paid-plan orders and versions with software licensing support. Look elsewhere if you need a built-in store, a free multi-product catalog or room for files larger than 300MB.
