Overview

Webex App brings meetings and team messaging together for organizations that need both, from small groups to large gatherings. Its free tier is a practical starting point, but the 40-minute meeting cap makes it a poor fit for longer sessions unless you move to a paid plan.

Key features

Messaging is more than a place to exchange notes: teams can share files, co-create, and keep conversations organized with threads, mentions, pins, flags, and forwarding. Adding an external person’s email address to a space enables collaboration beyond the organization. Messaging includes end-to-end encryption.

Meetings support screen sharing and breakout rooms, and recording is available. The free plan’s local recording is useful without a paid commitment, though it does not provide the cloud recording storage included with Webex Meet. That plan offers 10 GB of cloud recording.

Integration breadth is a strength: Webex connects with more than 100 apps, including Box, Salesforce, Google, Microsoft, Slack, Miro, and Calendly. That makes it a stronger candidate for teams working across existing services than a standalone meeting tool.

Pricing

Webex Free: $0 per user per year. It includes unlimited meetings of up to 40 minutes and 100 attendees per meeting, local recording, and basic support. No payment details are required to sign up. It suits individuals and teams with short meetings; recurring longer calls will run into the time limit.

Webex Meet: custom pricing. It supports up to 200 attendees and meetings up to 24 hours, with 10 GB of cloud recording. It is the clearest step up for teams that need longer meetings or cloud recordings.

Webex Suite: custom pricing. It allows up to 200 attendees and meetings up to 24 hours. Choose it when those larger meeting limits matter, but compare its terms with Meet before deciding: the available plan details do not establish additional differences.

Webex Enterprise: custom pricing. Its 1,000-attendee limit is suited to organizations hosting large meetings, and the plan includes FedRAMP-authorized security. Paid subscriptions can be canceled or downgraded to free through account management; the change takes effect after the current billing period ends. Paid plans accept credit cards, debit cards, PayPal, and Apple Pay.

Platforms

Webex works on Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, and in a browser. Browser access is convenient, but the app is required for all features, including PSTN calling. That distinction matters for users who expect full functionality without installing software.

Who it's for

Webex is a good fit for teams that want meetings and structured messaging in one service, especially when external collaboration, app integrations, or large meeting capacity matters. The free plan works for short calls and basic collaboration. Look elsewhere if meetings routinely exceed 40 minutes and a paid plan is not an option, or if PSTN calling without an installed app is essential.

Pros and cons

Pro: Free meetings allow up to 100 attendees, with local recording and no payment details required to sign up.
Pro: Paid meeting tiers extend sessions to 24 hours, and Enterprise supports up to 1,000 attendees.
Pro: Messaging combines collaboration tools with end-to-end encryption, while more than 100 integrations connect it to other work apps.
Con: Free meetings stop at 40 minutes, which is restrictive for longer discussions.
Con: The app is necessary for all features such as PSTN calling, limiting the appeal of browser-only use.
Con: Paid plan pricing is custom, so the cost of longer meetings and added capacity cannot be weighed against the free tier upfront.

Alternatives

For meeting scheduling rather than a combined meetings-and-messaging service, consider Zoom Scheduler: its free Basic plan includes one personal booking page and one calendar connection, while its Scheduler plan is 4.99 USD per month billed annually.

If you need a virtual event platform, MootUp has a free plan capped at five participants per meeting and 40 minutes, while Accelevents offers listed event plans for 500 or 2,000 registrants. Shindig is another event option, with a free tier for 100 participants per event and a 40-minute event limit.

EventX has a free plan for unlimited events with 30 attendees per event. flat.social is a browser-based alternative whose free tier supports five people at once with unlimited session length. Cvent is a paid option with a free trial for its registration product. EventHash has a free Community plan with 100 AI credits per month and paid plans starting at 129.00 USD per month.

Verdict

Choose Webex App if your organization wants messaging alongside meetings, needs broad integrations, or may need to host up to 1,000 people. The free tier is a credible way to start, but its 40-minute ceiling is the main reason to look elsewhere—or budget for a paid plan—when longer meetings are routine.
