Overview

Resgrid is an open-source dispatch and operations platform for teams coordinating calls, responders, vehicles, and communications. It suits organizations that need dispatch and field operations in one system, especially those that value role-specific mobile tools or the option to host the platform themselves. Its breadth is a strength, but the free tier is geographically restricted and a HIPAA BAA requires a substantial paid add-on.

Key features

Dispatch and coordination

Resgrid covers the dispatch cycle: teams can create, assign, track, and close calls, with notifications and reporting alongside the workflow. Personnel and unit management, calendar scheduling, mapping, messaging, training, and workflow automation extend the system beyond dispatch. Live location tracking and vehicle dispatch can help keep field activity visible, though the free tier’s 10-entity ceiling may quickly constrain larger operations.

Integrations and role-focused apps

The workflow engine can send notifications through email, SMS, Slack, Teams, or Discord; call REST APIs or webhooks; and upload files to several storage services. Native GPS tracker support for Teltonika, Queclink, and Jimi/Concox, plus a Traccar integration path, gives teams specific options for connecting vehicle location hardware. Resgrid also offers five role-focused apps—Responder, Unit, IC, Dispatch, and BigBoard—across iOS, Android, and web. That division can make the platform more relevant to varied operational roles than a single general-purpose interface.

Hosting and security

Organizations can run the open-source platform on their own servers, while hosted Resgrid is updated weekly. Client and API communications use 256-bit TLS, and stored data is encrypted with AES-256. For organizations handling protected health information, the Advanced Data Protection add-on is required before Resgrid will sign a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement; buying it alone does not make an organization HIPAA compliant. Resgrid is working toward SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2 reports, rather than claiming those reports are complete.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and supports up to 10 entities. It is limited to North American customers on the US-West data center, with push notifications and email but no SMS. That is a meaningful low-cost starting point for small eligible teams, but the regional restriction and entity cap make it a poor fit for larger or geographically dispersed operations.

Paid plans and add-ons include:

Push-To-Talk Addon: 35.00 USD per month, billed monthly per 10-user pack. It provides two-way IP voice, up to 50 channels, and Android, iOS, and web support; the pack structure matters for teams sizing costs by headcount.
Enhanced AI: 95.00 USD per month, billed monthly per department, and requires a paid plan. It adds private AI answers and drafts with a monthly usage budget and no overage charges.
Readiness Pro: 150.00 USD per month, billed monthly per department even on an annual plan. It adds preventive maintenance scheduling, work orders, and parts, labor, and vendor cost tracking.
Business Ops: 250.00 USD per month, billed monthly per department even on an annual plan. It adds invoicing, contractor billing, cost recovery, and online payments through the customer’s Stripe account.
Advanced Data Protection: 1950.00 USD per year, billed yearly per department. It adds field-level encryption for PHI and PII, per-department keys, and step-up MFA, and is required for Resgrid to sign a HIPAA BAA.

These add-ons target distinct needs rather than replacing the core dispatch platform: voice, AI assistance, maintenance and cost control, business billing, or stronger data protections. The per-department charges and the monthly billing of some add-ons even on an annual plan are important budgeting terms.

Platforms

Resgrid supports Android, iOS, web, API, Linux, macOS, Windows, and self-hosted deployments. Its role apps are identified for iOS, Android, and web, while self-hosting offers organizations the option to run the open-source platform on their own servers.

Who it's for

Resgrid is best suited to organizations that coordinate dispatch, personnel, vehicles, and operational workflows together, and that can benefit from integrations or dedicated role apps. It is less compelling for teams that only need a narrowly scoped dispatch tool, cannot use the US-West free tier, or need a HIPAA BAA without budgeting for the department-priced Advanced Data Protection add-on.

Pros and cons

Pro: Dispatch, personnel, unit, schedule, mapping, messaging, and workflow tools share one operational platform, reducing the need to treat each coordination task as a separate system.
Pro: The workflow engine connects common messaging channels, APIs, webhooks, and storage services, while named GPS tracker support gives vehicle-focused teams concrete integration paths.
Pro: Open-source self-hosting provides an alternative to hosted deployment, and the platform offers role-focused apps for five operational roles.
Con: The free plan is capped at 10 entities, restricted to North America on US-West, and excludes SMS, limiting its usefulness as a long-term option for many teams.
Con: A HIPAA BAA requires Advanced Data Protection at 1950.00 USD per year per department, and the add-on by itself does not establish HIPAA compliance.
Con: Several add-ons are priced per department, with Readiness Pro and Business Ops billed monthly even on annual plans, so costs can rise with organizational structure.

Alternatives

For another dispatch-oriented option, compare Dispatch Software and Dispatch Management Software.

Onro is worth considering for teams seeking a free demo tier with unlimited orders, users, and drivers, plus customization.
Fieldified may suit teams prioritizing scheduling, invoicing, CRM, and reporting in a free plan with usage limits.
Super Dispatch offers a free Carrier TMS Lite plan with a driver app, limited dashboard, and loadboard.
Shipday is a delivery-focused alternative with a free plan capped at 300 orders per month and 10 driver accounts, and a 14-day full-platform trial.
ServicePower is another option for workforce scheduling and work order management.
Odyssee Field Service is a paid alternative with an Essential plan at 35.00 EUR per month per user and a three-user minimum.
Dispatch has a Pro plan at 139.00 USD per month for suggested teams of 1–10 users, with unlimited jobs and appointments.
Reliance Corrective Action is another paid option.

Verdict

Choose Resgrid if your organization needs dispatch and operational coordination in one open-source platform, with integrations, role-focused apps, and a self-hosting option. Its broad workflow scope is the main reason to choose it. Look elsewhere if the free plan’s region and entity limits do not fit, or if the cost of department-based add-ons—especially Advanced Data Protection for a HIPAA BAA—makes the operating model impractical.
