Overview

Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Helsinki, RELEX brings forecasting, inventory, pricing, merchandising, production, and supply-chain planning into one platform. Its solution areas also include collaboration, fresh and retail operations, space and assortment, diagnostics, and strategic planning. RELEX says its technology has been refined across 600+ enterprise implementations and that it serves 600+ customers globally.

That range can help organizations coordinate decisions that affect one another, such as demand, stock, production, and promotions, rather than planning each in isolation. The trade-off is scope: businesses need to determine whether a broad platform matches their processes and systems, rather than assuming its many modules are automatically useful.

Key features

Forecasting, inventory, and fresh operations

Demand planning applies machine learning and automation to improve forecast accuracy and planning efficiency. End-to-end inventory planning automates complex optimization and is designed to drive 99+% availability with less stock. Those targets address the tension between keeping products available and limiting inventory, but they are goals, not a guarantee of results for every operation.

Fresh operations combine AI-driven ordering with in-store production planning, markdowns, recipe management, and expiration management. This makes the platform relevant to businesses managing perishable goods, where ordering, production, and markdown decisions are closely linked; organizations without fresh operations have less reason to value this specialized coverage.

Pricing, manufacturing, and scenario planning

Pricing and promotions combine price optimization and promotion planning with configurable AI agents, scenario testing, approvals, and alerts. Manufacturing planning includes AI-generated master plans, constraint-aware production scheduling, and distribution planning. Scenario planning, supplier management, logistics planning, and fulfillment management are also supported, extending the platform beyond forecasting into connected operational decisions.

Integrations, extensibility, and security

RELEX connects with ERP, POS, WMS, HR, and MDM systems, including SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Visma, IFS, and AS400, as well as Databricks and Snowflake. Data can move by batch API through Azure Blob Storage or SFTP, or through the RELEX Data API for near-real-time exchange. RELEX Data Sharing also provides near-real-time access to planning data in Snowflake without moving or duplicating it.

SAP compatibility has meaningful boundaries: the SAP Connector supports S/4HANA on-premises, S/4HANA private cloud (RISE), and ECC 6.0 EHP8, but not S/4 public cloud (GROW) or ECC releases older than EHP8. SAP customers outside those supported configurations should look elsewhere or confirm an alternative integration path before choosing RELEX.

RELEX Open lets customers use existing planning capabilities, connect external AI agents and enterprise systems through open protocols and MCP, and build new capabilities on the platform. Its security framework includes access controls, network segmentation, encrypted transfers, vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, 24/7 monitoring, backups, and disaster-recovery testing. Inventory and Supply Chain software has ISO 27001 certification, SOC 2 Type I and Type II audits, and GDPR compliance statements. The Developer Portal requires registration.

Pricing

RELEX is paid software with custom pricing. No plan tiers or self-service price points are presented, so organizations should expect to discuss scope directly rather than compare fixed packages. This model suits buyers evaluating a broad enterprise deployment, but it gives smaller teams no clear entry price for judging affordability. Customer support is available by email and by phone in the United States, Europe, and Australia.

Platforms

RELEX supports API and iOS access, and deployment options include both hosted and self-hosted arrangements. RELEX Mobile Pro is an in-store execution app for retailers, suppliers, wholesalers, and manufacturers, with iPhone and iPad support. The mobile application is specifically oriented to in-store execution; it should not be confused with a general-purpose planning interface for every user.

Who it's for

Retail, wholesale and distribution, consumer packaged goods, and manufacturing organizations are the clearest fit. Retailers can draw on fresh operations, assortment, pricing, and replenishment; manufacturers can use production and distribution planning; and wholesalers can coordinate inventory and supply-chain decisions. Smaller organizations seeking one focused function, or SAP users on unsupported versions, have stronger reasons to consider a narrower or compatible alternative.

Pros and cons

Pros

Broad planning coverage: Demand, inventory, pricing, merchandising, production, and supply-chain functions sit within one platform, which can support decisions spanning teams.
Flexible data connections: Multiple enterprise integrations and both batch and near-real-time exchange options accommodate different system environments.
Fresh and manufacturing depth: Dedicated capabilities address perishable-goods operations and constraint-aware production planning, not just general forecasting.
Enterprise security posture: The stated controls, certifications, audits, and monitoring are relevant to organizations handling sensitive operational data.

Cons

Custom pricing: Without fixed tiers, buyers cannot assess cost from a published price before discussing their requirements.
SAP version exclusions: GROW public cloud and ECC versions before EHP8 are outside the connector’s compatibility, potentially complicating adoption for those customers.
Enterprise scope: The wide platform is best justified when several planning functions need coordination; teams seeking a single-purpose tool may find it more than they need.

Verdict

Choose RELEX if your retail, wholesale, consumer-goods, or manufacturing organization needs to coordinate multiple planning functions and can invest in an enterprise platform. Its strongest case is the combination of broad operational coverage, integration options, and specialized fresh and manufacturing planning. Look elsewhere if you need transparent entry pricing, a focused tool, or an SAP connector compatible with GROW public cloud or ECC older than EHP8.
