Overview

ProProfs combines quiz authoring with scoring, distribution, and performance reporting. Branching logic and several scoring modes let authors tailor assessments beyond a fixed sequence of questions, while support for links, website embeds, QR codes, email invitations, and learner dashboards offers multiple ways to reach participants. That range makes it a versatile choice for training and assessment; teams that only need a lightweight quiz may find the authoring and administration options more than they need.

Key features

Authors can choose from more than 20 question types, including multiple choice, matching, and hotspot questions. Scoring options include automatic, partial, custom, manual, bonus-point, negative-marking, and AI scoring. This flexibility suits knowledge checks, exams, and assessments with different grading rules, but it also means administrators should decide in advance how scores will be handled.

AI tools can generate quizzes and questions, rewrite questions, suggest feedback, and grade essay responses against rubrics. The advertised library of more than 1,000,000 ready-to-use questions and templates gives authors material to adapt rather than requiring every quiz to start from scratch. ProProfs also supports quizzes in more than 70 languages.

Reports cover individual, group, and cohort results, completion status, and scores, with exports to Excel, CSV, and PDF. These options help instructors and administrators review both individual performance and wider patterns. Security controls include password protection, unique learner logins, role-based permissions, IP restrictions, single sign-on, and the ability to disable printing or copying. Proctoring can require screen sharing and webcam and microphone access, with recordings accessible in proctoring logs; that level of oversight may suit formal exams, but is unnecessary for many informal quizzes.

Quizzes work on mobile devices and can be assigned through an online classroom as well as shared by link or embedded on a site. Integrations include Mailchimp, Salesforce, WordPress, SCORM, Tin Can API, ActiveCampaign, GetResponse, iContact, Keap, HubSpot, Campaign Monitor, and Google Sheets. ProProfs describes the product as GDPR compliant, with cloud infrastructure hosted by Amazon and IBM, and offers human support by phone, chat, and email.

Pricing

The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, billed forever, and allows 12 fields in total: 8 quiz questions and 4 lead fields. Report history lasts 90 days. That is a useful way to make a small quiz, but the question cap rules it out for most full assessments.

Education pricing starts with School & District at 0.25 USD per month, billed $3.00 annually per student/month, with custom student capacity. K-12 Teacher costs 4.00 USD per month, billed $48.00 annually per teacher/month, for a maximum of 150 students. The former accommodates custom student capacity; the latter has a clear individual-teacher ceiling.

For business and exam use, Business Complete Elite costs 0.83 USD per year, billed $9.96 annually per active quiz taker/month, on annual plans only, with unlimited quiz takers. Certifications & Exams costs 1.00 USD per month, billed $12 annually per candidate/month on annual plans only, with a 100-candidate monthly minimum. Essentials is 19.99 USD per month, billed $239.88 annually per 100 active quiz takers/month, up to 300 active quiz takers/month. Business is 39.99 USD per month, billed $479.88 annually per 100 active quiz takers/month, up to 500 active quiz takers/month. These plans price capacity differently, so buyers should match the per-student, per-candidate, or active-taker basis to their actual audience; the minimum and maximum quotas matter as much as the headline rate. A free trial is also offered.

Platforms

ProProfs is available on the web and through an API, and its quizzes work on mobile devices. The mobile support is useful for respondents taking quizzes on phones, while the listed platforms do not establish a separate native mobile app.

Who it's for

ProProfs is a strong fit for educators, training teams, hiring teams, and organizations that need more than a basic quiz: branching, varied scoring, reporting, integrations, or controlled exam conditions. It is less suitable for users who need substantial quiz capacity at no cost, since the free plan stops at eight quiz questions, or for buyers whose expected audience does not fit the paid plan's capacity rules.

Pros and cons

Pros: More than 20 question types, branching, and multiple scoring modes accommodate different assessment styles.
Pros: AI authoring and a large question-and-template library can reduce the effort of creating material from scratch.
Pros: Individual, group, and cohort reporting with common export formats supports both detailed and aggregate review.
Pros: Distribution options, integrations, access controls, and proctoring cover a broad range of organizational needs.
Cons: The free plan allows only 8 quiz questions and retains report history for 90 days.
Cons: Paid plans use different capacity measures, and some impose annual billing, candidate minimums, or active-user ceilings.

Alternatives

FlexiQuiz is worth considering when a free plan with 10 questions per quiz and 20 responses per month is enough; it also includes unlimited quizzes and runs across Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, web, and API platforms. SpeedExam is another free option, with 25 exam attempts per month, 2,000 questions, and 100 MB of storage; choose it if those exam-focused limits suit your needs.

Testportal offers a free EDU plan with 100 results storage, advanced test configuration and reporting, and additional user accounts. ClassMarker is an alternative with a free plan and trial, plus a Professional 2 plan that includes up to 1,000 credits per month, AI exam proctoring, and custom certificates.

Classtime may suit classroom use where its free Basic plan's limit of 40 simultaneous students, unlimited questions and sessions, and 50,000+ free questions are a better match. Crowdpurr offers a free Basic plan for 20 participants, 15 questions, and three simultaneous experiences.

QuizFaber is a free alternative for users who want quiz software on web, Windows, or Linux. Interact is another option for lead-capture quizzes, with a free plan capped at 100 completions per month, two quizzes, and one user, and no integrations.

Verdict

Choose ProProfs Quiz Maker if your work calls for flexible assessment formats, reporting, integrations, and options for controlled exams, and you can match a paid plan's capacity terms to your audience. Its main drawback is the free plan's eight-question ceiling; look elsewhere if you need longer quizzes without paying or a simpler tool for occasional informal use.
