Overview

PROMT serves individual users, translators, developers, and organizations with several distinct translation products rather than one uniform service. Master NMT handles text and formatted documents, while Neural Translation Server is an on-premise option for business deployment. There are also mobile apps, an online translator, and analysis APIs for entity recognition, sentiment analysis, and language detection.

The breadth is useful if translation needs span desktop work, internal systems, or analysis workflows. It is less straightforward for someone seeking a single product with one platform and pricing model: plans, supported languages, and deployment differ by offering.

Key features

Documents, terminology, and memory

Master NMT translates DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, text PDFs, ODF, XML, and HTML while preserving formatting. That makes it relevant for users who need translated working documents rather than text-only output. Users can edit word and phrase translations, customize proper names, add sentences to translation memory, and use glossary support. These controls are valuable for recurring terminology, though their practical fit depends on the language pair and product plan selected.

Offline work and integration

PROMT says almost all its solutions work offline, and positions desktop and server products for confidential translation without an internet connection. The server is an on-premise system with neural engines, customization, and scalable deployment, a stronger match for organizations that need deployment control than for occasional personal use.

Integrations include Microsoft applications, SharePoint, and CAT systems such as SDL Trados, Memsource, SmartCAT, and Across. Master NMT includes PROMT Agent for pop-up translation in other applications or browsers; a Trados Studio plug-in is a separate add-on. That separation matters for translators budgeting for a CAT workflow.

Mobile and analysis tools

PROMT.One apps for iOS and Android are free downloads with translation, dictionary, and phrasebook features. A free online translator provides another low-commitment option. The Analyzer SDK extends beyond translation with APIs for entity recognition, sentiment analysis, and language detection, making it relevant to developers building text-analysis workflows.

Pricing

PROMT has a free plan and paid plans. The paid choices are product-specific, with monthly subscriptions and one-time purchases:

PROMT Lite One Language Pair: 39.00 USD per month for one language pair; a lower-cost fit when one pair is sufficient.
PROMT Lite Multilingual: 59.00 USD per month for an offline text and document translator with multilingual support.
PROMT Master One Language Pair: 199.00 USD per month for one language pair.
PROMT Master Multilingual: 300.00 USD per month for an advanced offline translator, multilingual support, and personal settings. The higher price buys these stated capabilities over the Lite multilingual plan.
PROMT START: 45.00 USD per month for cloud translation of multiple types of information.
PROMT for MS Office: 45.00 USD per month for translation in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
PROMT Offline for Mac OS: 36.00 USD per month for an offline translator for Mac OS.
Trados Studio Plug-in add-on for PROMT Master NMT: 110.00 USD per once for integration with Trados Studio.

Language-specific Master NMT packs are each 199.00 USD per once: Eastern European (English ↔ Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Czech), Asian (English ↔ Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Korean, Turkish), Nordic (English ↔ Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Danish), and French European (French ↔ German, English, Spanish, Russian, Italian). These one-time purchases suit users whose required languages fit a listed pack; they are not a substitute for checking the language coverage of a subscription.

A free plan, free online translator, and free mobile app downloads offer ways to start without a subscription. PROMT also offers a trial and demo versions of business translators, including Professional NMT and Translation Server.

Platforms

PROMT offerings span Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, API, and self-hosted deployment, as well as web and desktop. Requirements vary: Master NMT needs 64-bit Windows 8.1, Windows 10, or Windows 11, at least 8 GB RAM, and 10 GB of free disk space. That is a concrete constraint for desktop buyers, and the Windows requirements should not be assumed to apply to every PROMT product.

Who it's for

PROMT is a strong candidate for translators who need formatted document translation, terminology customization, translation memory, or CAT integration. Organizations that prioritize offline or on-premise deployment can consider its desktop and server products. Developers may find the API and Analyzer SDK relevant. Casual travelers or occasional users may be better served by the free mobile apps or online translator rather than a paid desktop plan.

Pros and cons

Pros: Master NMT supports a broad range of document formats and preserves formatting, reducing the need to rebuild translated files.
Pros: Offline desktop and on-premise server options suit confidential workflows that should not rely on an internet connection.
Pros: Translation memory, glossary support, and editable terminology give translators ways to align output with preferred language.
Cons: Product-specific plans and distinct language packs require careful matching of platform, language pair, and workflow before purchase.
Cons: Master NMT's Windows system requirements rule it out for users whose computers do not meet them.
Cons: The Trados Studio plug-in costs extra, so CAT integration adds to the Master NMT purchase.

Alternatives

For other options, browse AI Translation Tools or Translation Software. Consider Reverso if its freemium offering and broad platform support better suit your needs. Lara Translate is worth considering for its free plan of 60,000 characters per month, one user, and documents up to 10 MB.

Papago offers monthly caps for image, document, voice, and glossary use. Choose Google Cloud Translation if you need an API and its neural machine translation allowance of 500,000 characters per month fits your volume. iTranslate is another freemium option, with a free text-translation plan and a PRO tier that includes voice and offline modes.

DeepL Translator may suit users whose needs fit its free allowance of 50,000 characters per user per month and one file translation per month. Baidu Translate is another freemium option across web and desktop platforms. For API users comparing throughput-based plans, LibreTranslate offers paid tiers with stated per-minute translation limits.

Verdict

Choose PROMT if document handling, terminology controls, translation memory, or offline and on-premise deployment are central to your work. Its range is a real advantage for translators and organizations with specific workflows, but the separate products, language packs, platform requirements, and add-on costs demand a deliberate fit check. If you only need occasional translation, start with the free mobile or online options; if you need a paid tool, look elsewhere when PROMT's product-specific structure does not match your workflow.
