Overview

Visitors can start a conversation on a business website and continue it over text with Podium’s AI Employee. The widget can collect lead information before a conversation begins, and Podium says its AI can answer messages instantly in a natural, conversational tone. Businesses can customize the widget’s colors and messaging, while click-path history tracks visitor engagement and behavior on the site.

Webchat also brings leads and interactions from multiple platforms into a shared inbox. The product page displays integrations with tools including QuickBooks, Mindbody, HubSpot, Outlook, Mailchimp, Shopify, Salesforce, and Square, among others. That breadth may help businesses connect Webchat to an existing software mix, though the listed integrations alone do not establish what each connection supports.

Key features

Website-to-text conversations: A visitor can begin on the site and continue over text, giving businesses a way to keep the conversation moving beyond the webpage.
Lead capture and visitor tracking: The widget can request lead information before chat, and click-path history adds context about a visitor’s website engagement.
AI replies: Podium says its AI responds instantly in a conversational tone. This is aimed at prompt responses, rather than a tool limited to live-agent exchanges.
Shared inbox: Leads and interactions from multiple platforms can be managed together, which is useful for teams handling conversations across channels.
Brand customization: Businesses can adapt the widget’s colors and messaging to fit their site.

Pricing

Podium Webchat is free with Podium Starter. Podium’s pricing model is freemium, but businesses seeking a tailored plan must choose an industry and request a custom quote. That means there is a no-cost route to Webchat, but no straightforward published price for evaluating a paid package before contacting Podium.

Starter is the clearest fit for a business that wants Webchat without an upfront subscription charge. Businesses comparing paid plans should expect custom pricing rather than a fixed monthly rate. No seat counts, quotas, trial length, or renewal terms are established for Webchat, so it is not possible to judge the cost of scaling a team or message volume from the plan information.

Platforms

Podium lists Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, web, and an extension among its platforms. It offers desktop apps for macOS and Windows and a mobile app linked to the App Store and Google Play. Podium Pass is a Chrome extension in beta and requires both a Podium account and the Chrome browser, so it is not a general-purpose browser add-on.

Who it's for

Webchat is a sensible fit for local businesses that want website inquiries, lead details, text conversations, and interactions from multiple platforms handled within Podium. Podium names auto dealerships, home services, aesthetics, and retail among the industries it serves. Businesses that need transparent paid-plan pricing before committing, or only want a standalone live-chat widget, may prefer to compare alternatives.

Pros and cons

Pro: The website-to-text path, lead capture, and click-path history combine conversation with visitor context instead of treating chat as an isolated exchange.
Pro: A shared inbox can bring leads and interactions from multiple platforms together, which can simplify channel handling for a business using Podium broadly.
Pro: Free availability with Podium Starter gives businesses a way to use Webchat without a separate listed price.
Con: Paid pricing is quote-based, so businesses cannot readily compare a fixed subscription cost.
Con: The browser extension is still in beta and requires Chrome plus a Podium account, limiting its usefulness to that setup.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, browse Live chat software or Two-Way SMS Software. Businesses focused on reviews can also compare Review Generation Software, Online Reputation Management Software, Restaurant Review Management Software, and Salon Reputation Management Software.

Textedly is worth considering for businesses that want a paid SMS plan with a free option and a free trial; its Basic plan is $29.00 USD per month, with 500 messages monthly or 600 per month on annual billing.
Chekkit may suit a business seeking a free starter package centered on a sales pipeline, booking, quotes, invoices, payments, and QuickBooks integration.
Havari is another freemium option, with its free plan limited to 20 credits per month across email, Messenger, and Instagram.
Sociocs offers a free plan capped at two channels, one user, and 1,000 messages per month, making those limits central to deciding whether it fits.
DialPhone Contact Center is a paid alternative for teams seeking a unified agent desktop and contact-center functions such as call and screen recording.
DialPhone Business SMS is an alternative for businesses evaluating a business SMS product.
EZ Texting is a paid option with a free trial; its Launch plan is $20.00 USD per month billed annually for up to 500 contacts, with one user and a telecom fee.
Heymarket is a paid messaging alternative with a shared inbox; its Standard plan is $49.00 USD per user per month billed annually, with a two-user minimum.

Verdict

Choose Podium Webchat if your local business wants website visitors to become text conversations, with lead capture, visitor context, and shared-inbox handling in the same broader platform. Its strongest case is that connected workflow; its main drawback is that paid costs require a custom quote, making it a weaker fit for buyers who need clear pricing or a standalone chat tool.
