Overview

Planview AdaptiveWork is a portfolio and work management platform for organizations coordinating projects, portfolios, and professional services. It suits teams that need planning, delivery, and financial oversight across different work methods. Its breadth is a strength for complex operations, but custom pricing makes it harder to assess before speaking with sales.

Key features

Demand intake, portfolio management, capacity and resource planning, project timelines, and workflow automation cover work from selection through delivery. Gantt charts, work breakdown structures, project templates, and risk management provide structure for formal project control, while support for waterfall, agile/scrum, collaborative, and hybrid delivery accommodates teams with different methods. Jira connectivity can roll up delivery from external systems, useful when not every team works in AdaptiveWork.

Financial management spans budget, time, and expense tracking, utilization analysis, revenue forecasting, and rate cards. That combination is particularly relevant to professional services organizations that need to connect project execution with financial performance. Configurable reports, dashboards, portfolio roadmaps, and branded PowerPoint reports through Slide Publisher serve both operational review and executive reporting.

Planview Anvi offers project sentiment and risk assessment, conversational project intelligence, summaries, communication assistance, text editing, and prioritization recommendations. These capabilities target project insight and communication, though the product's wider planning and reporting toolkit remains the more clearly defined basis for choosing it.

Collaboration includes discussions, file sharing, digital proofing, and external-stakeholder collaboration. Integrations include Microsoft Teams, Slack, Salesforce, SharePoint, Box, SAP, Oracle, ServiceNow, Zendesk, and Zapier, alongside Jira. Android and iPhone apps support reviewing work, reporting progress, and submitting work items; this is useful for updates away from a desk, while the core portfolio and financial oversight is aimed at organizational coordination.

Pricing

AdaptiveWork is paid software with custom pricing, available by contacting an account executive. That makes it a fit for organizations prepared to discuss their requirements directly, but a drawback for buyers comparing costs or building a budget before a sales conversation. There is no AdaptiveWork free trial listed among Planview's trial offerings; the free trials named there are for AgilePlace and ProjectPlace. No seat, quota, renewal, or trial-term details are provided for AdaptiveWork.

Platforms

AdaptiveWork supports web, Android, iOS, and API access. The mobile apps cover reviewing work, progress reporting, and work-item submission, while API access gives organizations a route to connect the product with other systems.

Who it's for

Planview positions AdaptiveWork for project portfolio management, product portfolio management, and professional services automation. It is strongest for organizations that need shared portfolio planning, cross-project oversight, resource and capacity planning, and financial tracking across varied delivery approaches. Teams seeking only a lightweight task board, or buyers who require transparent self-service pricing or a trial before engaging sales, have reason to look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pro: Portfolio planning, delivery, and financial management sit together, including intake, capacity planning, budgets, utilization, and revenue forecasting.
Pro: Support for waterfall, agile/scrum, collaborative, and hybrid work, plus Jira roll-up, suits mixed-method organizations.
Pro: Configurable dashboards and branded PowerPoint reporting give teams and executives multiple ways to review work.
Con: Custom pricing requires contacting an account executive, limiting early cost comparisons.
Con: Planview's trial page does not offer an AdaptiveWork trial, so prospective customers cannot use that route to evaluate it first.

Verdict

Choose AdaptiveWork if your organization needs portfolio-level planning tied to project delivery and financial performance across multiple work methods. Its broad planning, reporting, and finance capabilities are the main reason to consider it; custom pricing and the absence of a listed AdaptiveWork trial are the main reasons to compare alternatives first.
