Overview

Plane combines automated contractor payments with contractor accounts for payment requests and payment-status checks. Its reach across 240+ countries and 70+ local currencies makes it a practical fit for teams paying people across borders, and the no-e-wallet requirement avoids making a separate wallet part of the workflow.

The product also addresses administration around those payments: localized contract templates reviewed by US and local lawyers, W-8 and W-9 collection, 1099 preparation and filing, and expense submission and reimbursement approvals. Companies can use their own contracts instead of Plane’s templates. Plane’s experts can advise on worker classification, while businesses remain responsible for deciding how to engage workers.

QuickBooks Online integration prepares and exports journal entries, which can reduce manual accounting work for teams using that system. An open API, CLI and MCP access, with sandbox access on every plan, give development teams ways to connect or evaluate the service. Plane says it is SOC 2 Type I compliant and compliant with GDPR and CCPA, and offers 24/5 human support by email, chat and Slack to the team, including contractors.

Key features

International payments: Automated payouts in 240+ countries and 70+ local currencies suit globally distributed contractor rosters. Contractor accounts let workers request payments and check their status.
Contracts and compliance: Localized templates reviewed by US and local lawyers, plus support for customer-provided contracts, give teams flexibility. W-8 and W-9 collection and 1099 filing bring tax-form work into the same service.
Expenses and accounting: Contractors and employees can submit expenses for approval and reimbursement. QuickBooks Online automation prepares and exports journal entries, a focused benefit for businesses using that accounting platform.
Developer access and support: Open API, CLI, MCP access and included sandbox access offer integration options; 24/5 human support covers both the team and contractors.

Pricing

Plane has a free HRIS Platform plan and a paid Contractors plan at 39.00 USD per month, billed $39 /mo per person. The Contractors plan includes payments in 240+ countries and 70+ local currencies, no e-wallet requirement, W-8 and W-9 collection, 1099 filing and health insurance availability. Pricing is month-to-month, applies only to active contractors, and carries no signup or cancellation fees. That active-contractor basis is useful for changing rosters, though the per-person charge can add up for companies with many contractors.

The 0.00 USD per month HRIS Platform plan is for teams that need guided hiring and onboarding tasks, a contractor and employee directory, custom reports, holidays and time tracking. It does not include the paid plan’s contractor payment and tax-filing package, so it is not a substitute for a payment service when those functions are required.

Platforms

Plane supports web and API access. Its open API, CLI and MCP access are relevant to teams integrating contractor administration with other systems; QuickBooks Online is the named accounting integration.

Who it's for

Plane is a strong fit for companies that pay international contractors and want payments, contracts, tax documentation, expense approvals and accounting automation together. The free HRIS plan suits teams that need hiring and workforce records without contractor payments. Companies looking only for a low per-contractor fee, or whose accounting workflow does not use QuickBooks Online, may prefer a narrower or cheaper alternative.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad international reach across 240+ countries and 70+ local currencies; no e-wallet required; tax forms, contracts, expenses and QuickBooks Online journal entries are part of the workflow; month-to-month pricing charges only for active contractors.
Cons: The 39.00 USD per month per-person contractor price may weigh heavily on large rosters; the free plan lacks the paid contractor payment and tax-filing package; the named accounting automation is specific to QuickBooks Online.

Its month-to-month, active-contractor billing is a welcome concession for changing teams. Look elsewhere if minimizing per-contractor cost is the priority or you need a different named accounting integration.
