Overview

This community-maintained fork of the original Path of Building is designed to work offline and is distributed free under the MIT License. It supports importing character trees, items, and skills, then sharing builds with a generated code. The combination suits players who want an independent planning workspace, though its focus on Path of Exile makes it a specialized tool rather than a broad gaming utility.

Key features

Plan a build

The passive tree planner compares routes, highlights potentially useful nodes, and shows how a notable changes stats. Support for jewels, radius and conversion effects, timeless jewels, and alternate path tracing gives experienced players useful control over complex setups. It can also import passive-tree links from PathOfExile.com, PoEPlanner.com, and shortened PoEURL.com URLs.

Gem planning covers skill and support gems, letting players prepare links, compare their effects in different items, and get suggestions for additions. Item tools handle crafting and modifications such as anointments and corruptions, and let users compare gear sets. Together these features make it easier to assess changes as part of a complete build rather than in isolation.

Evaluate and share

The Power Report ranks passive skills on the tree and cluster jewels, helping players prioritize upgrades. Calculation modes include minimum and average values for ailments, regeneration, armour, and effective health, with detailed breakdowns such as effective health against different damage types. These are valuable for players who want to examine defensive trade-offs, but the planner’s appeal depends on wanting this level of build analysis.

The community fork adds mechanics including Pantheon powers, alternate ailments, and further skill and item interactions. Users can import character data and share builds with a generated share code; the repository README also describes trade-site searches for impactful items. The project supports automatic updating, and says most updates take a couple of seconds to apply.

Pricing

Path of Building Community is free, with no free trial. Its MIT-licensed public repository and invitation to contribute code or report issues on GitHub make it a practical choice for players who value community maintenance and open-source distribution. There are no paid tiers to weigh against the free version.

Platforms

The application supports Linux and Windows. GitHub Releases provides an install wizard or portable ZIP, giving Windows users a choice between an installer and a portable download. Players on other operating systems should consider an alternative that supports their platform.

Who it's for

This is best suited to Path of Exile players who plan detailed builds, compare skill and item choices, or want to inspect defensive calculations outside the game. Its support spans minions, party play, and support builds as well as skills, gems, passives, and item modifiers. It is less suitable for players who want a web-only tool or a planner centered on another game.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad planning tools cover passive routes, gems, crafted gear, and comparisons, so players can consider changes across a whole build.
Pros: Detailed calculation modes and Power Report rankings help users assess defenses and prioritize tree or cluster-jewel upgrades.
Pros: Offline use, free distribution, and an MIT license suit players who want a local planner without a subscription.
Cons: Support is limited to Linux and Windows, ruling it out for players who need a web, Android, iOS, or macOS app.
Cons: Its focus on Path of Exile makes it the wrong fit for players planning builds in other games.

Alternatives

For a broader directory of tools in this category, see Game Build Planners. Choose D4Planner instead for a free planner available on Android, iOS, and the web. Starfield Build Planner is a free web option for planning Starfield builds.

TLI Builder is a free web and Windows choice with an MIT-licensed application source. PoB Redux is another free Path of Exile planner, with support for Windows, macOS, and Linux. For Last Epoch, consider the free web tools Last Epoch Tools or Last Epoch Building, the latter also available on Windows. LoadoutDB is a free web reference site with no accounts or subscriptions. Last Epoch Planner is available on web, Windows, and Linux.

Verdict

Path of Building Community is an excellent fit for Path of Exile players who want a free, offline workspace for detailed build planning and analysis. Its strongest reason to choose it is the breadth of its tree, gem, gear, and calculation tools; look elsewhere if you need a platform beyond Linux or Windows or a planner for a different game.
