Overview

Pangram checks text associated with models including ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Llama, and Claude, and can flag passages edited with AI as well as text generated in full. It also detects AI-generated images and offers plagiarism detection, making it useful when a review needs to cover more than whether prose appears AI-written.

It accepts PDF, DOCX, and RTF files, with batch uploads of up to 100 files. Detection works across 24 languages. That breadth can suit schools and editorial operations handling varied submissions, though the Free plan's 2,000-word daily cap will constrain heavier use.

Key features

Text and image detection: Text checks span several named AI models, and image scanning adds a distinct review path. The Free plan allows three image scans per day; Individual raises that to 100 per month.
AI-edited passage highlighting: Flagging edited segments can help a reviewer distinguish AI assistance from wholly generated text. It remains a signal for review, not a substitute for editorial judgment.
Document and batch handling: PDF, DOCX, and RTF support plus uploads of up to 100 files at a time are practical for coursework or submissions. OCR is included on Free, but the daily word limit still applies.
Feed scanning and integrations: The Chrome and Firefox extension scans feeds on X, LinkedIn, Substack, Medium, Reddit, and Google Docs. Integrations include Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace, Google Classroom, Moodle, Schoology, and Ashby; Individual adds automatic social-media and Substack feed scanning and Gmail integration.
Privacy and security: Pangram displays SOC 2 Type 2 verification by AssuranceLab and says data is encrypted in transit and at rest, not shared or sold to third parties, and not used to train generalized AI models or its proprietary detection dataset. Submitted text remains stored while the account is active, though users can delete it from dashboard history.

Pricing

Pangram uses a freemium model, with paid plans from $20/mo and a 7-day trial. The annual billing language matters: Individual is shown as $20 per month billed annually, with $0 for 7 days and then $20 per month. Professional is shown as $65 per month billed annually, with $65 billed now.

Plan	Includes	Best fit
Free	2,000 words per day, three image scans daily, file upload and OCR, more than 20 languages, browser extension, Google Docs integration, and API access.	Occasional checks or trying the workflow; the daily text and image caps limit sustained use.
Individual	300,000 words and 100 image scans monthly, plagiarism detection on every scan, automatic social-media and Substack feed scanning, and Gmail integration.	Regular individual use that benefits from plagiarism checks and feed scanning.
Professional	Everything in Individual, five times more words, five times more image scans, and $200 of API credits monthly.	Higher-volume work or API use; its $65 monthly billed-annually price is a substantial step up from Individual.

The Free plan includes API access, but its word and image quotas make it more suitable for light use than ongoing high-volume review. Individual provides the clearest paid step for a single user needing recurring checks; Professional is aimed at substantially greater volume and API consumption. Support is listed through info@pangram.com and a Discord community.

Platforms

Pangram is available on the web, as an extension, and through an API. The extension supports Chrome and Firefox. Its educational integrations may fit institutional workflows, while the API offers a route for teams that need programmatic access.

Who it's for

Pangram makes the most sense for educators, publishers, and teams reviewing mixed document formats, AI-assisted writing, and images, particularly when multiple languages or feed scanning matter. It is less suited to someone who only needs occasional short text checks, since Free is capped daily and paid plans are structured around monthly use with annual billing.

Pros and cons

Pro: One service handles AI text and image checks, plagiarism detection, and AI-edited passage highlighting, reducing the need to separate those review tasks.
Pro: Support for 24 languages, common document formats, and batches of up to 100 files accommodates varied institutional and editorial workflows.
Pro: Free includes API access, file upload, OCR, and browser extension use, offering several ways to evaluate the service before paying.
Con: Free's 2,000-word daily cap and three daily image scans restrict regular use.
Con: Individual is priced at $20 per month billed annually, and Professional rises to $65 per month billed annually, so sustained use requires a meaningful commitment.
Con: Submitted text stays stored for the account's active lifetime unless deleted through dashboard history, a retention term users handling sensitive material should weigh.

Verdict

Pangram is a strong fit for schools and content teams that need multilingual text checks, image detection, plagiarism screening, and workflow integrations in one service. Its breadth and Free plan's API access make it worth considering, but users should look elsewhere if they need generous free volume or want to avoid annual billing commitments.
