Overview

MentorCity is built for organizations running structured mentoring programs, from schools and nonprofits to companies and government bodies. Its strongest case is bringing matching, learning, communications and program oversight together; smaller teams seeking only a simple way to find a mentor may not need that breadth.

Founded in 2011, it supports rules-based matching that administrators can review and adjust, alongside tools for individual and group mentoring. The free plan makes it possible to start without a subscription charge, while paid-plan costs are custom pricing.

Key features

Matching, goals and communication

Administrators can define matching criteria, preview suggested pairings and fine-tune them. That review step is useful when program rules matter more than automatic matching alone. Participants can set and track goals, and administrators can tailor mentoring agreements to each program.

Messaging, chat histories and discussion forums keep conversation in the platform. Participants can schedule meetings and use built-in video conferencing, which includes AI notetaking. These tools make MentorCity a more complete workspace for ongoing relationships, though teams should weigh that breadth against the needs of programs that only require basic matching.

Learning and group mentoring

Courses can contain multiple content modules, while a resource library and event management support learning beyond one-to-one meetings. Administrators can also create groups with multiple mentors and mentees, with group discussions, meetings and video calls. This combination suits programs that need structured learning or cohort activity, not just individual pairings.

Program oversight and integrations

Reporting covers engagement, goals, mentoring hours, meetings and goals achieved, giving administrators several ways to follow participation and progress. The integration offering highlights Azure, Stripe, API, SAML, OAuth, 2FA, G Suite, Zoom and Microsoft, with SSO, data syncing, calendar and email integrations. MentorCity says information is encrypted in transit and at rest, security testing is conducted regularly and participant data is backed up daily; its privacy policy specifies secure Canadian data-centre storage and 256-bit SSL encryption in transit.

Pricing

MentorCity uses a freemium model with a free plan. Standard and Enterprise use custom pricing, so organizations should request a quote against their program requirements.

Free: A no-cost entry point for organizations evaluating the platform. The included features and any participant, program or usage caps are not established here, so confirm those before planning a rollout.
Standard: Includes a dedicated account manager, messaging and file sharing, meetings and availability, video conferencing, goals and mentoring agreements, surveys, courses, events, a resource library, group mentoring and a mobile app. It is the core paid option for teams needing these program tools and ongoing support.
Enterprise: Adds single sign-on, enhanced branding and custom integrations to Standard. It is the natural fit for organizations with identity-management or integration requirements that go beyond the standard package.

Neither paid plan has a stated seat allowance, quota, trial period or renewal term, so buyers should establish those points in the quote rather than assume a fixed scale or commitment.

Platforms

MentorCity supports web, Android and iOS, plus an API. Its mobile access helps participants use the program away from a desktop, while the API is relevant to organizations connecting mentoring activity with other systems.

Who it's for

The platform is aimed at companies, professional associations, schools, nonprofits and government organizations. MentorCity says it serves programs from pilots with a few dozen participants through global initiatives with tens of thousands of users. Its reporting, group mentoring and administrative matching controls are especially relevant where a program has multiple cohorts or needs oversight as it grows.

Organizations seeking only a lightweight mentor directory, or those that need a published per-seat price before evaluating a vendor, may find the custom-priced plans a poor fit.

Pros and cons

Pros: Matching criteria can be reviewed and adjusted, giving administrators control over pairings.
Pros: Courses, group mentoring, meetings and reporting cover more of a structured program than matching alone.
Pros: Web, iOS, Android and API support accommodate both participant access and system connections.
Cons: Standard and Enterprise have custom pricing, making upfront budget comparisons difficult.
Cons: Free-plan inclusions and caps are not defined, limiting how confidently an organization can plan a no-cost launch.

Alternatives

Mentorloop is worth considering for a simple mentoring program, particularly for nonprofits and community groups; its Pro plan starts at $299.00 USD per month.

Chronus is a paid option with no free plan; its Unleash Performance tier includes up to 1,000 licenses and unlimited programs.

Verdict

MentorCity is a strong fit for organizations that need administrator-led matching alongside learning, group mentoring and program reporting in one system. Its free plan lowers the barrier to an initial evaluation, but custom pricing and unclear free-plan boundaries make cost and scale important questions to settle before adoption. Choose it for comprehensive program management; look elsewhere if a simple, openly priced option is the priority.
