Overview

Malwarebytes Premium Security is a subscription security suite for people who want ongoing threat prevention alongside browser and privacy tools. Its broad device coverage is appealing, but platform-specific differences matter: Mac users should not expect the ransomware and exploit protection offered on Windows.

Unlike Malwarebytes Free, which is for cleaning up after a cyberattack, Premium is designed to help prevent one. That makes it the more relevant choice for routine protection, rather than occasional cleanup.

Key features

Threat and web protection

Real-time protection runs automatically to help stop attacks before they happen. Malware and potentially unwanted program detection, ransomware protection, and protection against phishing and malicious sites give the suite a broad prevention role. Windows also gets exploit and brute-force protection. These capabilities are not uniform across operating systems, so check the specific protections for the device you intend to cover.

Web Protection blocks phishing sites and malicious URLs before they load. That can help reduce exposure while browsing, rather than relying only on scans after a threat reaches a device.

Scam, privacy, and browser tools

Scam Guard flags suspicious content and recommends next steps, while Trusted Advisor provides personalized security advice. Privacy VPN is listed for desktop and mobile; Windows users also get webcam and Remote Desktop monitoring. The breadth is useful if you want several safeguards in one product, though the platform differences make it important to check which ones apply to your setup.

Malwarebytes Browser Guard blocks ads, prevents third-party cookie tracking, and flags suspicious sites. It supports Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari, extending some of the product’s browsing protections to common browsers.

Pricing

Malwarebytes uses a freemium model. The free Malwarebytes product is a cleanup tool for attacks that have already damaged a device; it does not fill the same ongoing-prevention role as Premium Security.

Paid plans have custom pricing:

Standard: one device.
Sole proprietor: three devices.
Boutique business: 10 devices.
Small office: 20 devices.

All plans include free customer support and a 60-day money-back guarantee. Choose by the number of devices you need to cover; the smaller tiers may not suit households or offices with several devices. No trial length or renewal terms are stated.

Platforms

Supported platforms are Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS, with a browser extension also offered. Downloads are available directly for Windows and Mac, through the Microsoft Store for Windows, the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad, and Google Play for Android. The maximum listed device limit is 20. Because feature availability varies by operating system—and ransomware and exploit protection are paid on Windows but unavailable on Mac—platform fit should weigh as heavily as device count.

Who it's for

Malwarebytes Premium Security suits people who want automatic prevention across multiple device types, with browser safeguards and additional scam and privacy tools. It is a weaker fit for Mac users whose priority is ransomware or exploit protection, or for anyone who only needs to remove existing infections and would be served by the free cleanup product.

Pros and cons

Pro: Real-time, web, and malware protections address prevention as well as cleanup, making Premium more suitable than the free product for ongoing security.
Pro: Browser Guard adds ad blocking, cookie-tracking prevention, and suspicious-site warnings across four major browsers.
Pro: Plans cover from one to 20 devices, with support and a 60-day money-back guarantee included.
Con: Features differ by operating system; ransomware and exploit protection are unavailable on Mac.
Con: Paid plan prices are custom, so it is not possible to compare their cost from the stated plan terms alone.

Verdict

Choose Malwarebytes Premium Security if you want ongoing protection across several device types, plus browser, scam, and privacy safeguards in one suite. Its strongest case is the combination of automatic prevention and broad platform support; its main caveat is that key protections vary by operating system, especially on Mac. If those platform-specific limits undermine your needs, or you only want a cleanup tool, look elsewhere.
