Overview

SMTP relay and an API handle messages sent by websites and apps, including receipts and account notifications. The same service also offers campaign design, sending and tracking, so teams can manage both operational email and newsletters through one platform. It is a sending service, not a full two-way email system: inbound email is not supported.

turboSMTP has operated since 2009 and is based in Milan, Italy. Its service spans home and small-business use through large email providers, but the plan structure and sending rules matter as much as the feature set when choosing it.

Key features

The SMTP API supports transactional sending, with sample code in PHP, C#, Java, Python, Perl and Ruby. Delivery-event webhooks can feed message events into other workflows. A free WordPress SMTP plugin and compatibility with WPForms, Hostinger and WooCommerce email workflows make it a practical option for sites already using those tools.

Campaign tools include real-time open and click tracking, plus bounce, spam and unsubscribe management. Smart routing, custom tracking domains and pre-send email validation add delivery and list-quality controls. These capabilities are useful for teams that want campaign functions as well as a relay, but they do not remove the responsibility to follow the anti-spam policy: unsolicited email is prohibited, and mass campaigns must explain how recipients signed up, include an unsubscribe mechanism and show the sender’s postal address.

Security features include SPF/DKIM authentication, API keys, custom sending domains with SPF/DKIM/DMARC, and two-factor authentication. The service also advertises 24/7 multilingual support by phone, chat and email, and offers a dedicated IP option. Inbound email is absent, so teams needing to receive and process mail should look elsewhere.

Pricing

The free plan costs 0.00 EUR and allows 200 emails per day, but is valid only for the first six months. That makes it useful for a short evaluation or a small, temporary sending need, not a permanent free tier. The monthly plans are more straightforward for regular volumes:

Basic: 14.95 EUR per month for 15,000 emails. It is the entry point for a modest, predictable monthly workload.
Pro: 79.95 EUR per month for 15,000 emails and up to 100 subaccounts. The same stated email allowance as Basic makes the extra cost difficult to justify on volume alone; it is aimed at organizations that need subaccounts.
Enterprise: custom pricing for 1,000,000+ emails, for very high-volume senders seeking a tailored arrangement.

Credit bundles suit senders who prefer a larger allowance with credits that do not expire for a year: Silver costs 49.00 EUR per month for 50,000 emails, Gold 92.00 EUR per month for 100,000, Resell 270.00 EUR per month for 300,000, Titanium 450.00 EUR per month for 500,000, and Diamond 790.00 EUR per month for 1,000,000. Unused credits expire one year after purchase, so these options are less suited to very irregular sending that might leave credits unused beyond that period. Compare the allowance and billing terms with a monthly plan before choosing; the stated quotas differ substantially.

Platforms

turboSMTP supports Android, iOS, web and API access. The API and SMTP relay suit application-driven sending, while the web dashboard brings campaign tools and tracking together. A dedicated IP is an option for senders who need one.

Who it's for

Choose turboSMTP if you need transactional email and campaign sending under one service, want API documentation across several programming languages, or rely on its WordPress and WooCommerce integrations. Its higher-volume credit bundles and Enterprise tier also address larger senders. It is a weaker fit for a lasting free service, inbound email handling, or mass campaigns that cannot meet its consent, unsubscribe and postal-address requirements.

Pros and cons

Pro: SMTP, API, webhooks and campaign tools cover both transactional delivery and newsletters in one service.
Pro: WordPress plugin and stated compatibility with WPForms, Hostinger and WooCommerce make it relevant to common site email workflows.
Pro: Multiple volume options, a dedicated IP option and 24/7 multilingual support serve a broad range of sending needs.
Con: The free allowance ends after six months, limiting its usefulness as a continuing no-cost option.
Con: Basic and Pro both state a 15,000-email monthly quota, while Pro costs substantially more; its stated differentiator is up to 100 subaccounts.
Con: No inbound email support means it cannot serve as a complete email-processing platform.
Con: Mass campaigns must meet explicit anti-spam requirements, including signup explanation, an unsubscribe mechanism and the sender’s postal address.

Alternatives

For transactional email options, browse Transactional Email Software.

Choose Mailchimp if you want a marketing-focused free plan with 250 contacts, 500 emails per month, one audience and one seat.
Choose Postmark if a small, permanent free allowance matters: its free plan provides 100 emails per month with no overages and never expires.
Twilio Segment is another freemium option for readers comparing software in this category.
Choose Nuntly if its free allowance of 3,000 emails per month, 100 per day, one domain and one inbox fits your needs.
Choose Maileroo if you want a free plan that includes both outbound and inbound email: 3,000 outbound and 1,000 inbound emails per month, with two custom domains.
Choose MailerSend if its free allowance of 500 emails per month, 100 daily API requests, one domain and one template better matches your requirements.
Choose Resend Broadcasts if 3,000 monthly emails, a 100-per-day cap and three domains on its free plan suit your sending needs.
Choose SMTP2GO if its free plan’s 1,000 emails per month is enough; phone and chat support on that plan are limited to 14 days.

Verdict

turboSMTP is a strong fit for businesses and developers who need transactional sending plus campaign tools, with useful web integrations and plans for larger volumes. Its main case is the combination of relay, API and marketing functions; its main drawbacks are the six-month free-plan limit, no inbound email and campaign compliance requirements. Look elsewhere if you need a lasting free tier or inbound processing.
