Overview

LaunchBox brings games from Steam, GOG, ROM files, and MS-DOS into one collection. It can populate entries with box art, metadata, fan art, screenshots, and logos from its Games Database, giving mixed libraries more context than a bare list of titles. Players with games spread across those sources have more reason to use it than someone who only needs a launcher for one store.

The Windows app can be moved to another folder or computer by copying it, a practical advantage for users who want to relocate their setup. Premium is DRM-free and can be deployed on as many personal devices as the user wishes.

Key features

Collections can be filtered by genre, platform, ESRB rating, developer, and publisher. Custom status and source fields, along with editable metadata, let users track details beyond the standard catalog fields. This flexibility is useful for large or carefully curated libraries, but may be more organization than a small collection needs.

Premium adds community-created or custom themes, Big Box mode, gamepad automation, startup and pause screens, and display customization. Those tools make the paid version the better fit for players who want a tailored, controller-oriented presentation; the free Windows edition is more appropriate if importing and playing are enough.

LaunchBox also supports cloud sync and controllers. Support options include technical forums, how-to videos, bug reporting, and feature requests.

Pricing

The Starter plan for Windows is free forever at 0.00 USD per free. It includes the core experience and lets users import and play all games, but the Premium features are reserved for paid licenses.

Regular costs 30.00 USD per once and includes all Premium features for Windows, a perpetual license, and one year of free updates. It suits Windows users who want the expanded presentation without paying for updates beyond the included year.

Bundle costs 35.00 USD per once for perpetual Windows and Android licenses, all Premium features on both apps, and one year of free updates to both. It is the more fitting purchase for users who want Premium across devices. Lifetime costs 75.00 USD per once for a perpetual Windows license, all Premium features, and lifetime updates; choose it if continued Windows updates matter enough to justify the higher upfront price.

LaunchBox for Android is free for collections of 100 games or fewer. The Windows and Android apps use the same games database, media, and portable XML data, and Windows data can be exported to Android. The Android cap makes the free version a reasonable fit for smaller collections, not an unrestricted option for a large portable library.

Platforms

LaunchBox supports Windows 10 and higher, with Windows 10 and 11 fully supported, as well as Android. Its portable Windows setup can be copied to another location or computer. Android is distributed through direct downloads and updates, rather than being limited to a standard app-store installation.

Who it's for

Choose LaunchBox if you want one organized catalog for PC storefront games and emulated systems, especially when artwork and custom filtering matter. It is less compelling for a small, single-store collection or for anyone who does not need its catalog and presentation tools.

Pros and cons

Pro: A DRM-free Premium license can be used on as many personal devices as desired.
Con: Big Box mode, themes, and other presentation tools require Premium.

Verdict

LaunchBox is a strong choice for players who want to unify modern PC and emulated games in a richly organized catalog, with a portable Windows setup and an Android companion. Its key reason to look elsewhere is the cost of Premium presentation features—and Android's 100-game free cap—if all you need is a simple or fully free launcher.
