Overview

RemNote is a note-taking and study app for learners who want to turn their notes and source material into reviewable flashcards and quizzes. Its mix of PDF annotation, AI generation, and spaced repetition makes it a strong fit for students building a study system around their own materials. The free plan is useful, but its upload and AI limits may push regular users toward a paid tier.

Key features

From sources to study sessions

RemNote can generate summaries, flashcards, and quizzes from notes, PDFs, and other sources. Cards can use question-and-answer, fill-in-the-blank, list, cluster, or image-occlusion formats. Spaced repetition resurfaces cards over time, while adaptive review and practice quizzes offer additional ways to revisit material. This breadth suits learners who want one place to create and review study content; people who only need basic notes may not benefit from the extra study machinery.

PDF annotation and offline use

PDFs and slides can be marked up with highlights, drawings, and shapes, with source citations supporting study from reference material. Notes and flashcards remain accessible offline and sync when connectivity returns, a practical advantage for studying away from a reliable connection. Free users can annotate three PDFs, upload up to 20 files per day, and upload files up to 8MB. Those caps make the free tier workable for light use, but restrictive for large or frequent source uploads.

Sharing and classroom use

Shared flashcards and group licenses for classrooms and educational institutions give RemNote a route beyond solo study. The emphasis remains on individual notes and review, so its strongest case is for learners who want to organize their own material as well as share selected study sets.

Pricing

RemNote uses a freemium model. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes unlimited notes and flashcards, unlimited synced devices, three annotated PDFs, five image-occlusion cards, one handwritten document, 20 uploads per day with an 8MB file limit, and 250 AI credits per month. Free users can also try each Pro feature a few times. This is a capable starting point, though the annotation, file-size, and AI-credit limits matter if source-based study is central to your routine.

Pro costs 8.00 USD per month, billed monthly. It raises the daily upload allowance to 600 files, supports files up to 300MB, includes 1,000 AI credits per month, and provides 50 monthly runs for listed AI features. It is the more measured upgrade for students who need larger uploads and regular AI assistance without the highest credit allowance. RemNote offers a 25% education discount for Pro.

Pro with AI costs 18.00 USD per month, billed monthly. It includes 600 files per day, files up to 300MB, 20,000 AI credits per month, and nearly unlimited runs for listed AI features. Frequent AI users are the clearest fit; occasional generation is unlikely to justify paying more than Pro. The Life-Long Learner plan is a one-time purchase with custom pricing and indefinite access to most Pro features, which may suit buyers who prefer a single payment, though it does not promise every Pro feature.

Full refunds are available within 30 days of a subscription or license purchase. Payment methods include credit cards, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Cash App, and Link.

Platforms

RemNote offers desktop apps and mobile apps for iOS and Android. Offline access keeps notes and flashcards available without connectivity and syncs changes once the connection returns, making it practical for study across devices and locations.

Who it's for

RemNote is best for students and self-directed learners who annotate source documents, create their own study material, and benefit from scheduled review. Its offline access and broad card formats strengthen that case. It is less compelling for someone who only needs a simple note-taking app, or for a free user whose study depends on large files or sustained AI generation.

Pros and cons

Pros: Generates summaries, flashcards, and quizzes from notes and sources, connecting preparation to review.
Pros: Offline notes and flashcards, PDF markup, and multiple card formats support varied study habits.
Pros: Unlimited notes, flashcards, and synced devices on Free provide a substantial base for getting started.
Cons: Free uploads are limited to 8MB per file, with only three annotated PDFs and 250 AI credits per month.
Cons: Pro with AI costs 18.00 USD per month, a meaningful step up for learners who need high AI usage.
Cons: Life-Long Learner's custom pricing and coverage of most, rather than all, Pro features make its long-term trade-off harder to assess.

Verdict

Choose RemNote if you want to turn your own notes and annotated sources into flashcards and quizzes, then keep reviewing them offline with spaced repetition. Its generous note and flashcard allowance makes Free a sensible trial, but frequent source users should compare the upload caps and AI credits with the cost of Pro or Pro with AI. If you mainly need lightweight notes or do not expect to use its study workflow, a more focused alternative is likely a better fit.
