Overview

Infobip SMS API is a business messaging service for developers who want to add text messaging to existing systems. It is a strong fit for organizations that need two-way messaging, international delivery, or integrations with business software; its main trade-off is usage-based pricing that varies by destination and message conditions.

Key features

The API handles bulk and scheduled SMS, inbound messages, delivery reports, flash SMS, binary content, National Language Identifier, and MMS. Two-way messaging, inbound webhooks, short codes, and toll-free numbers support workflows beyond one-way alerts, including authentication, support updates, and marketing. Infobip says its network reaches more than 190 countries through over 800 direct connections, which is useful for businesses serving multiple markets, though it does not make message costs uniform.

Authentication options include HTTP Basic, API keys, IBSSO tokens, and OAuth 2.0. Infobip supports TLS 1.2 and recommends API keys or tokens for HTTP traffic. Client libraries cover Node.js, Python, Java, Go, PHP, C#, and Ruby, giving development teams several ways to connect the API to existing systems.

Integrations include ActiveCampaign, Adobe Commerce, HubSpot, Salesforce, Shopify, WooCommerce, Zapier, and Zoho. Zapier can trigger an automation when a new SMS arrives and can also send SMS as an action. Compliance documentation addresses opt-in and opt-out, sender registration, and local requirements such as DLT, IYS, and 10DLC. The SMS documentation also links to a support center with troubleshooting guides and frequently asked questions.

Pricing

Infobip offers a 60-day trial and a free trial account, but trial messages can be sent only to the account's verified phone number. That restriction makes the trial useful for checking a basic integration, not for piloting messaging with customers or a wider audience.

The Pay-as-you-go plan has custom pricing: businesses pay for messages used, rates depend on country and network, and volume discounts are available for large campaigns. SMS API pay-as-you-go is shown at 0.00 USD per free, with charges for messages sent; rates vary by destination country, network, sender type, use case, and applicable discounts. The zero-cost entry does not mean ongoing messaging is free. This model suits teams whose volumes vary, but budgets require attention to the destinations and message types in the planned campaign.

Platforms

Infobip supports API and web access. The API is the relevant route for developers integrating messages into business systems, while web access broadens the service beyond a code-only interface.

Who it's for

Infobip is best suited to businesses with developers who need to build SMS into authentication, support, or marketing workflows, especially when they need inbound messages or broad international reach. It is a weaker fit for teams that need to test customer-facing sends during a trial or require predictable per-message costs before choosing destinations and sender types.

Pros and cons

Pros: Two-way SMS, webhooks, delivery reports, scheduling, and MMS cover a broad range of business messaging workflows.
Pros: Reach across more than 190 countries and integrations with major commerce, CRM, and automation tools can help fit messaging into existing operations.
Pros: Multiple authentication methods, TLS 1.2 support, and client libraries for seven languages give development teams practical integration choices.
Cons: Trial sends are limited to a verified account phone number, so real-recipient trials are not possible.
Cons: Message costs vary by country, network, sender type, use case, and discounts, which can complicate forecasting across markets.

Verdict

Infobip SMS API is a strong choice for developer-led businesses that need flexible two-way messaging, multiple integration paths, and international reach. Its breadth is the central reason to choose it; look elsewhere if a trial must reach real users or if destination-dependent rates make cost planning impractical.
