Overview

The tool combines cropping and resizing with background removal, exposure adjustment, positioning checks, and downloadable digital photos or print sheets. It covers requirements for 64 countries and 154 document formats, a useful range for people whose photo must match a particular application. It is preparation software, not a substitute for an authority’s final decision; some applications require a photographer or on-site capture.

Key features

Alongside document-specific preparation, the free ICAO checker reviews biometric criteria including face framing, open eyes, expression, lighting, background, sharpness, and digital alterations. The Green Card checker verifies 2×2 inch dimensions and biometric requirements, and checks photo age using EXIF data. These checks can help catch common issues before submission, but they do not certify acceptance.

Image processing—including background removal, cropping, and brightness correction—runs in the browser using WebAssembly and Web APIs. The privacy policy says photos and face or biometric data are not sent to or retained on the maker’s servers. The site loads ONNX Runtime from jsDelivr and AI models for face detection and segmentation, which it says run in the browser without sending image data to third parties. PostHog analytics, hosted in the EU, activate only after consent; session replays capture clicks and scrolls, not photos, keystrokes, or personal information.

Pricing

Free: 0.00 USD per free. The service is free to use, requires no account or subscription, and has no stated usage limits. It includes compliance validation, background removal, multi-photo print layouts, and JPG, PNG, and PDF exports. With no paid tier or trial to weigh, it is an unusually accessible option for occasional photo preparation as well as repeat use. The trade-off is that official acceptance is not guaranteed.

Platforms

idpic.app runs on the web, with image processing performed locally in the browser. That suits people who prefer not to install a dedicated app, though it is not a native mobile or desktop application.

Who it's for

Choose idpic.app if you need free, document-specific photo preparation, want print-sheet and digital exports, or value local browser processing. Look elsewhere if your application requires an on-site photo, or if you need a guarantee of acceptance or verification by a human reviewer.

Pros and cons

Pro: Broad coverage—64 countries and 154 formats—makes it useful across many document applications.
Pro: Background removal, biometric checks, retake guidance, and print-sheet generation bring several preparation steps together at no charge.
Pro: Local image processing and consent-gated analytics give privacy-conscious users more control over photo handling.
Con: The checkers cannot guarantee acceptance, and some applications require a photographer or on-site capture.

Passport Room offers Android, iOS, and web access with three finished photos per day and watermark-free exports on its free plan.

PhotoID Studio is a desktop alternative for macOS and Windows, with a 30-day trial covering 100 photos and all features; it requires payment after the trial. Smartphone iD suits readers seeking a one-time digital-photo purchase with AI and human verification; its stated starting price is 8.50 USD per once and varies by document. Cutout.Pro is a broader freemium tool across web, desktop, mobile, API, and Linux; its subscription starts at 5.00 USD per month for 80 credits. Photo Pass is another free web option. Verdict

idpic.app is a strong first choice for people who need free, document-specific photo preparation in a browser, especially when local processing and downloadable print sheets matter. Its broad format coverage and built-in checks are practical advantages; look elsewhere when the application requires a photographer or when you need a guarantee or human verification.
