Overview

Paxton10 is a site-security platform for organizations that need to manage door access and video from one system. It best suits multi-site operators with dedicated access-control hardware; its breadth and scale are compelling, but separate hardware costs and limits on simultaneous use matter.

A system can cover up to 100 sites, 1,000 doors, 1,000 cameras and 50,000 users. Paxton describes the software as licence-free, so the cost decision centers on hardware rather than recurring software licence fees.

Key features

Access and video in one system

Administrators can manage users and permissions, set access schedules, review audit logs and monitor events alongside live and archived video. Visitor management, lock and gate support, reports, custom dashboards, site plans and device controls make the platform relevant to organizations that need both entry administration and security oversight. Combining those tasks is useful, though it also means Paxton10 is more system than a small site may need.

Third-party IP cameras can be added through a video controller or video hub. Their streams require compatible video recorder hardware, so camera compatibility alone does not remove the need to plan for supporting equipment.

Browser and mobile administration

The browser interface works without installing additional software and can be reached remotely over an internet connection. Paxton recommends the latest Google Chrome for administration. Paxton Connect is a free iOS and Android app for remote site management; Paxton Key provides free smartphone and smartwatch credentials. These options give administrators and users mobile access without a stated app charge, while the core system still depends on separately priced hardware.

Security and capacity

Encrypted Paxton10 cards and keyfobs use AES-128, with a separate encryption key for each system. Paxton says server remote access is protected by an SSL/TLS certificate and that it makes ongoing security improvements and periodic security tests. Those measures address credential and remote-access risks, but do not change the practical concurrency ceiling: no more than 10 system sessions and 10 simultaneous live-video viewers. Larger teams should consider whether peak use will fit within those limits.

Paxton lists fire and intruder alarm integration and compatibility with PaxLock and Entry. It also offers support by webchat and phone from 7am–7pm Monday to Friday and 9am–1pm Saturday GMT. Paxton says its products carry a five-year guarantee, while the Paxton10 Server product page specifies a separate two-year manufacturer warranty for that server.

Pricing

Paxton10 system

The system has custom pricing: software licence fees are not charged, but hardware is priced separately. The Paxton10 Server has an RRP of £1166.00 excluding VAT. This is a hardware-led model rather than a low-cost software subscription, and the server price is only one stated hardware price, not a total deployment cost. There is no paid software tier with a stated feature downgrade; the trade-off is the upfront hardware investment.

Paxton also offers free mobile apps for remote management and credentials. They do not turn the hardware-dependent system into a no-cost security setup.

Platforms

Paxton10 is listed for web, Windows, macOS and Linux, with Android and iOS support. Browser-based administration avoids installing extra software, and Chrome is Paxton’s recommended browser. The mobile apps provide remote site management and phone or smartwatch credentials on iOS and Android.

Who it's for

Paxton identifies education, healthcare, retail, leisure, commercial and public-sector organizations as intended markets. Its high stated site, door, camera and user ceilings make it a plausible fit for operators managing security across multiple locations. It is less suitable for buyers seeking software-only access control, or for sites whose many administrators and security staff need more than 10 concurrent sessions or live-video viewers.

Pros and cons

Pros: Access control and live or archived video share one platform, reducing the need to manage those functions separately.
Pros: The stated capacity of up to 100 sites, 1,000 doors, 1,000 cameras and 50,000 users can accommodate substantial deployments.
Pros: Browser access and free iOS and Android apps support remote administration, while free smartphone and smartwatch credentials give users mobile entry options.
Pros: AES-128 encrypted cards and keyfobs use a unique key per system; Paxton also describes SSL/TLS-protected remote server access.
Cons: Hardware is a separate cost, and the server alone has an RRP of £1166.00 excluding VAT, so licence-free software does not mean a low-cost installation.
Cons: The 10-session and 10-live-viewer ceilings can constrain busy sites with overlapping administrator or monitoring activity.
Cons: Third-party IP camera streams require compatible recorder hardware in addition to a video controller or hub.

Alternatives

Browse Property Access Control Software to compare the category. Choose ButterflyMX if you want an access-control option with a listed free plan and video intercom hardware priced per unit. Raven CloudAccess may suit a smaller installation seeking a freemium option: its free plan caps use at two doors and five users, with seven days of event history. Consider SmartRent Smart Access when a project-specific quote and itemized proposal fit your buying process.

AXIS Camera Station Secure Entry is another paid option, with a free trial. KisiFit is worth considering if a published starting price per location is preferable: its Base plan starts at 99.00 USD per month and covers up to two locations, one door and 200 active users. OpenVia is a freemium web option. Rhombus Access Control may suit buyers who prefer a per-door annual licence; its listed door licence requires a DC10 or DC20 controller. For another paid access-control option with quote-based pricing, consider SALTO Homelok.

Verdict

Paxton10 is a strong fit for organizations that want access administration and video management under one roof, especially across multiple sites and with mobile administration in the mix. Its no-licence-fee model and substantial stated capacity are attractive, but buyers should budget for hardware and verify that the 10-session and 10-viewer limits suit their busiest periods. Choose another system if low upfront equipment costs or higher concurrency is essential.
