Overview

Gizmo is a study tool that turns YouTube videos, PDFs, notes, and PowerPoint presentations into summaries and study aids. It suits learners who bring material from several formats and want flashcards or quizzes alongside summaries. Its broad set of conversion tools is appealing, though the subscription choices matter for anyone who needs predictable costs.

Key features

Study from common learning materials

Gizmo offers YouTube and PDF summarization, as well as tools to turn both formats into flashcards. Notes can be converted into flashcards, and PowerPoint files can be summarized or converted into cards. That range makes it a practical fit for students whose materials are spread across video, documents, and presentations, rather than a tool focused only on manually written cards.

AI summaries, flashcards, and quizzes cover different study needs: condensing material, creating prompts for recall, and practising with questions. Gizmo also includes a Flashcard Maker and lists Quizlet among its tools. The Quizlet tool's role is not clear enough to judge as an integration or a separate workflow, so the stronger case rests on Gizmo's named source-conversion tools.

Pricing

Gizmo is freemium and has a free plan, making it possible to start without committing to a paid subscription.

The Long-term plan is an unlimited subscription billed up front for 365 days, with yearly auto-renewal until canceled. The Last minute plan is an unlimited subscription on a weekly recurring basis. Neither plan has a stated price, so the weekly option cannot be compared with the annual commitment on cost. Check the subscription terms on your device before choosing either plan, and cancel a renewal if you no longer want it.

Apple-device subscriptions are tied to the user's Apple ID and managed in device Settings. Prices vary by device and region, and eligible users may see a student-discount toggle. Gizmo provides help articles about subscriptions and payments, with a help page for additional questions.

Platforms

Gizmo is available on the web, iOS, and Android, with mobile apps for both iOS and Android. That coverage suits learners who want access across a browser and a phone, though the subscription management route differs for Apple-device purchases.

Who it's for

Gizmo is a sensible choice for students who need to turn a mix of videos, PDFs, notes, and slide decks into review material, especially if summaries and quizzes are useful alongside flashcards. It is less compelling for anyone who needs to know the exact cost or free-plan allowance before deciding, or who wants a confirmed cap and renewal cost before starting a paid plan.

Pros and cons

Pros: Source tools cover YouTube, PDFs, notes, and PowerPoint, so learners can use materials in several formats without limiting their workflow to cards made from scratch.
Pros: AI summaries, flashcards, and quizzes provide multiple ways to process and review study material.
Pros: Web, iOS, and Android support makes Gizmo available across browsers and mobile devices.
Cons: The free-plan limits are unclear, making it hard to know whether it will cover sustained study use.
Cons: Paid plans have no stated price; the annual plan renews yearly and the last-minute plan recurs weekly, so neither commitment can be weighed against its cost in advance.

Alternatives

For another free, cross-platform flashcard option with stated allowances, StudyGlen has a free plan and a one-time Mini Pack priced at 4.99 USD, with 10 study credits and 5 regenerations per day. Choose it when those defined credits and one-time payment suit better than Gizmo's price-unclear recurring plans.

Knowt is another free option on web, iOS, and Android; its Basic plan includes unlimited file creation, live collaboration, and storage, plus browsing 5 million resources. It is worth considering if collaboration or a large resource collection matters more than Gizmo's named source-specific conversion tools.

RemNote is a free option for iOS and Android with explicit limits including 3 annotated PDFs, 5 image occlusion cards, and 250 AI credits per month. Choose it if those defined study features and caps better match your needs than Gizmo's unspecified free-plan limits.

Quizlet is a free-plan alternative with paid tiers that include monthly limits on practice tests, Learn questions, and Q&A or textbook solutions. It may suit someone comparing a more explicitly bounded practice offering.

Jambo offers web, iOS, and Android access, with a free plan that includes 2,000 cards, 15 decks, and 5 AI generations per day. Its defined free allowances make it easier to judge capacity than Gizmo's free plan.

Brainscape is another freemium flashcard choice, available on web, iOS, and Android as well as API; its Pro plan is priced at 7.99 USD per year and includes unlimited AI flashcard creation. Consider it if that stated annual price and card-creation focus are a better fit.

Vaia is a freemium alternative available on web, iOS, and Android.

Mindomax is a macOS-only alternative with a free plan and unlimited cards in its Free Forever plan, so it is relevant if you use a Mac and want that specific offer.

Verdict

Choose Gizmo if you study from a mixture of YouTube, PDFs, notes, or presentations and want summaries, flashcards, and quizzes in one tool. Its format coverage and mobile availability are the clearest reasons to pick it. Look elsewhere if firm free-plan limits or a known subscription price are essential to your decision.
