Overview

Point85 calculates OEE from availability, performance rate and quality rate, applying a nine-category model of time losses. It can also collect equipment data for general-purpose acquisition. The suite divides configuration, collection, monitoring and event entry among separate applications, giving teams distinct tools for each task rather than one all-in-one interface.

Designer defines equipment, data sources, work schedules, availability reasons, materials, units of measure and event-resolution scripts. Collector runs as a Windows service or Unix daemon and stores equipment events in a relational database for OEE, MTBF and MTTR calculations. Monitor presents equipment metrics, collector status and notifications, event timelines, trends, time-loss charts and Pareto charts. This separation supports detailed configuration, but makes Point85 a better fit for teams prepared to manage several components.

The OEE applications are open-source projects hosted on GitHub, and the OEE-Designer repository identifies its license as MIT. Point 85 also maintains projects for operator, mobile, units-of-measure and work-schedule applications.

Key features

OEE and loss analysis: Availability, performance and quality tracking, alongside downtime and loss analysis, make the system useful for examining where production time is lost. An optional work schedule can inform calculations, so teams can configure OEE around their operating calendar.
Broad data collection: Sources include OPC DA/UA, HTTP/S, RabbitMQ, JMS, MQTT, Kafka, WebSocket, email, database interface tables, file shares, Modbus, cron jobs and GE Proficy Historian. That range can accommodate varied plant systems; it also means the value depends on configuring the relevant sources and event-resolution scripts.
Operator event entry: Operator apps support chronological event entry or summarized entry over a period. This gives teams a choice between recording events as they happen and entering a period summary.
Messaging and databases: Configured systems can send event data to RabbitMQ, JMS, MQTT or Kafka brokers for Monitor subscriptions. Supported relational databases include Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL and HSQLDB, giving deployments multiple database options.

Pricing

Point85 is free and open source, with no paid plan described. That makes it an option for teams seeking OEE software without a subscription price, but they should expect to take responsibility for configuring and deploying its components rather than choosing among packaged service tiers.

Platforms

Point85 supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows, web and self-hosted deployment. Its applications include Designer, Collector, Monitor, desktop and web operator tools, and operator apps for iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, Linux and Chrome/Edge. The web operator app is distributed as a WAR file for a compatible web server such as Tomcat, so it suits organizations able to deploy WAR applications. Collector runs as a Windows service or Unix daemon.

Who it's for

Point85 is a strong candidate for manufacturers that need configurable OEE collection across different equipment sources and have the technical capacity to manage a relational database and application deployment. Its operator apps and event-entry options also suit plants that need operators to record events, whether chronologically or as period summaries. It is less compelling for buyers looking for a turnkey, single-interface service or vendor-backed paid plan.

Pros and cons

Pro — Wide input coverage: The listed protocols, brokers, files, database tables and historian support can help bring data together from varied plant systems.
Pro — Detailed loss visibility: OEE measures, event timelines, time-loss charts and Pareto charts support both monitoring and investigation.
Pro — Free and open source: Teams can use the suite without a software subscription and can inspect its open-source projects.
Con — Deployment has technical demands: The suite spans several applications, a relational database and, for its web operator app, a WAR-capable server.
Con — Configuration is substantial: Equipment, sources, scripts, schedules, reasons, materials and units all need definition, which favors teams able to own plant-software configuration.
