Overview

RELEX forecasts demand across merchandising, supply chain, and operations. For manufacturers, Demand Planning & Sensing works at SKU/day granularity and can aggregate forecasts up to 24 months, giving planners both fine-grained signals and a longer planning horizon. It is a substantial planning platform rather than a lightweight forecasting tool, so its value depends on having the data, workflows, and implementation scope to use that depth.

Key features

Forecasts can account for promotions, point-of-sale signals, weather, seasonality, cannibalization, and halo effects. That breadth helps teams model demand beyond historical sales patterns, while also making the quality of the inputs important. Demand sensing, hierarchical forecasting, seasonal and channel planning, location planning, and SKU-level forecasting support multiple planning views.

For new products, a Product Attribute AI agent matches them with reference products to generate day-one forecasts. This can address the lack of sales history at launch, although the usefulness of the forecast still depends on having suitable reference products and attributes.

Configurable dashboards let planners review, adjust, aggregate, and share forecasts, manage exceptions, and investigate anomalies. Visualizations show how demand factors affect forecasts, and users can correct them. Scenario planning lets teams compare demand what-ifs before selecting one to execute, a practical safeguard when assumptions change. The broader capabilities also include size and color, open-to-buy, promotion and markdown optimization, price elasticity analysis, competitor price monitoring, hybrid pricing methods, and continuous optimization.

Connections include file-based and API-based options, with named systems including SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Visma, IFS, AS400, Databricks, and Snowflake. The SAP Connector supports S/4HANA on-premises, S/4HANA private cloud (RISE), and ECC 6.0 EHP8; it does not support S/4 public cloud (GROW) or ECC versions older than EHP8. Organizations on those excluded SAP environments should resolve integration fit before investing further.

RELEX cites access controls, authenticated and encrypted data transfers, vulnerability scanning, regular penetration testing, and round-the-clock security monitoring. Its Inventory and Supply Chain software has ISO 27001:2013 certification and SOC 2 Type I and Type II reports; the company also says its governance and incident response procedures are GDPR-compliant. Its security operations center reports an average 20-minute response time for cases requiring further attention.

Pricing

RELEX Demand Planning is paid, with custom pricing. Prospective customers are directed to request a demo, so organizations should expect to assess the solution through a sales process rather than compare a published entry price. That is a reasonable route for a complex platform, but less suitable for teams seeking a self-serve plan or a quick budget benchmark.

Platforms

RELEX Demand Planning is available on the web. Its integrations use file-based and API-based connections, which may help fit into varied data environments, subject to connector compatibility such as the SAP limits above.

Who it's for

Manufacturers that need SKU/day forecasts, demand sensing, product lifecycle forecasts, and production or distribution planning are the clearest fit. Retailers and wholesalers are also among the customer types RELEX serves, but this Demand Planning & Sensing offer is specifically described for manufacturers. Smaller teams with straightforward needs or buyers requiring transparent, self-service pricing should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros

Detailed, long-range forecasting: SKU/day forecasts can roll up to 24 months, useful for connecting operational detail with longer planning cycles.
Broad demand context: Promotions, POS, weather, seasonality, cannibalization, and halo effects can inform forecasts rather than relying on sales history alone.
Planning control: Editable forecasts, exception management, anomaly investigation, and what-if comparisons help planners turn predictions into decisions.
Day-one new-product forecasts: Reference-product matching tackles a common gap before a new item has its own sales record.

Cons

Custom pricing and demo-led sales: Buyers cannot assess a published plan price before engaging with RELEX.
SAP exclusions: S/4 public cloud (GROW) and ECC earlier than EHP8 are not supported by the SAP Connector, potentially ruling out a direct fit for those environments.
Operational depth brings planning overhead: The wide range of inputs and controls is best suited to teams able to manage detailed forecasting workflows, not buyers seeking a simple tool.

Alternatives

For a free, open-source option with a free trial and Linux, self-hosted, API, and web platforms, consider frePPLe; its Cloud plan is capped at six scenarios. Choose ToolsGroup Demand Planning if you want a paid web-based alternative whose price depends on capabilities, scope, users, integrations, and implementation needs.

Horizon Demand Planning is another web option with a free plan. Infor Demand Planning is a paid web-based alternative, while Blue Ridge Supply Chain Intelligence is paid.

For a lower-cost, bounded starting point, Flowlity offers a €249.00-per-month Lite plan with up to 5,000 SKUs and CSV upload, but no ERP integration. Netstock Demand Planning starts at $900.00 USD per month on an annual subscription. If your organization already uses Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Demand Planning includes demand-planning capabilities in its $210.00 USD-per-month Supply Chain Management edition, billed annually.

Verdict

RELEX Demand Planning is best for manufacturers that need detailed, multi-factor forecasts tied to demand sensing and scenario-based planning. Its strongest reason to choose it is the combination of SKU/day depth, long aggregation horizons, and planner controls; its main reasons to look elsewhere are custom pricing and SAP Connector exclusions that can block an otherwise promising fit.
