Overview

frePPLe connects demand forecasts with inventory, replenishment, and production planning, making it a fit for teams that want plans across those functions to inform one another. That integrated scope is less compelling for buyers seeking only a standalone production scheduler or forecast tool.

Production plans account for finite material supply and resource capacity, and planners can adjust jobs in an interactive Gantt chart. Forecasting uses statistical and AI techniques, with method selection and team review and editing. Inventory planning calculates safety stocks and reorder quantities, creates replenishment orders, and supports item segmentation and tailored business rules.

Key features

Forecasting: Hierarchical forecasting and SKU-location granularity support demand planning across product and location levels. Method selection and collaborative review give teams room to refine forecasts.
Production planning: Accounting for material and capacity constraints makes plans more grounded in available resources; the Gantt chart provides a way to adjust jobs interactively.
Inventory and replenishment: Safety-stock and reorder calculations, order creation, segmentation, and configurable business rules support differentiated inventory policies rather than one uniform approach.
Integration: REST API, CSV, Excel, and direct database access give teams several routes to connect existing systems. Community also includes two-way Odoo integration.
Scenario planning: Scenario planning is supported, though Cloud limits users to six scenarios. That may suffice for a bounded set of alternatives, but can constrain teams that need to maintain more parallel plans.

Pricing

frePPLe has a free open-source Community edition, plus a 15-day trial. The company also offers a free academic-use scheme by contacting it. Community is the natural starting point for teams willing to manage the software themselves: it includes a multilingual browser application and Ubuntu Linux binaries and Docker images, but support is DIY through the user group.

Cloud and Cloud PLUS have custom pricing. Cloud is hosted and capped at six scenarios. Cloud PLUS is hosted on frePPLe servers with doubled resource allocation, and its scenarios are limited by storage instead. Both list professional support, making them more suitable than Community for organizations that want a vendor-supported hosted option; the scenario and resource differences matter when assessing fit.

Enterprise also has custom pricing and is installed on customer hardware, with unlimited scenarios and professional support. It is the stronger fit for organizations that need infrastructure control, including those whose policies or regulations may rule out cloud hosting. Subscription pricing is based on active item-location pairs, and the displayed calculator describes a size below 20,000 pairs; buyers should account for their own pair count when evaluating cost.

Platforms

frePPLe supports web, API, Linux, and self-hosted use. Community and Enterprise offer Ubuntu Linux binaries and Docker images; Community is a browser-based multilingual application, while Enterprise is intended for on-premise installation. This gives teams meaningful hosting choice, though self-hosting brings operational responsibility.

Who it's for

frePPLe is suited to manufacturers and supply-chain teams that need to align forecasts, stock policies, replenishment, and capacity-constrained production. It is especially relevant when open-source access, Odoo integration, or customer-controlled hosting matters. Teams wanting professional support should look to Cloud or Enterprise rather than Community, and those requiring more than six Cloud scenarios should consider Cloud PLUS or Enterprise.

Pros and cons

Pro: Forecasting, inventory, replenishment, and production planning sit within one product scope, supporting connected planning decisions.
Pro: Multiple integration routes, including two-way Odoo integration in Community, can accommodate different system environments.
Pro: Enterprise installation on customer hardware and unlimited scenarios suit organizations prioritizing infrastructure control and extensive scenario work.
Con: Community support is DIY through a user group, which is a poor fit for teams needing professional assistance.
Con: Cloud’s six-scenario maximum can limit broader what-if planning.
Con: Subscription cost is based on active item-location pairs, so scale in that dimension is central to evaluating price.

Verdict

Choose frePPLe if your team needs connected supply-chain planning, wants a free open-source starting point, or requires customer-hosted Enterprise deployment. Its main advantage is the combination of forecasting, inventory, replenishment, and constrained production planning; look elsewhere if Community’s DIY support or Cloud’s scenario ceiling conflicts with how your team works.
