Overview

Flowrev is a cloud-based cost and revenue recognition service for organizations managing recurring, usage-based or project-linked revenue. It is best suited to teams that need schedules and accounting-system connections across multiple contract types, but its plan caps make volume an important buying constraint.

It connects to Xero and QuickBooks Online through their APIs, and supports GAAP/ASC 606 and IFRS 15 recognition processes. Live schedule checks, change tracking and built-in forecasting and balance reports give accounting teams useful controls; the fit depends on whether the organization’s schedule volume sits within a plan’s annual allowance.

Key features

Recognition and contract handling

Schedules can recur once, monthly, quarterly, yearly or on a custom cadence, with per-diem, even-period, percentage or template-based computations. Flowrev can read service dates from invoices or calculate them automatically. That flexibility suits subscription, SaaS, usage-based, percentage-complete and milestone arrangements, as well as other business models.

Contract changes, cancellations, upgrades, downgrades and renewals are supported with an audit trail. Performance obligations and contract modifications are supported too, making the service more relevant to businesses with changing customer agreements than a tool limited to static schedules.

Checks, integrations and reporting

Live schedule checks explain what triggered an alert, while locking protocols and change history support review and audit workflows. Xero and Intuit integrations have been certified since 2015 and 2017 respectively. Data synchronization covers chart of accounts and product or service items; Xero tracking and QuickBooks Department and Class reporting are also supported, alongside locking and one-click journaling.

Built-in reporting covers MRR, ARR, revenue and cost waterfalls, deferred revenue and prepaid expense balances, plus future revenue and bookings forecasts. These views connect schedule work to recurring-revenue and balance tracking without relying only on exported data.

Pricing

Flowrev has a free plan and a 14-day trial. The trial requires no credit card and permits recognition-data export at any time. The paid organization plans are billed per organization per month, with one invoice each year covering all subscriptions:

Bronze: 50.00 USD per month, for up to 300 active revenue or cost schedules per year.
Silver: 100.00 USD per month, for up to 1,200 schedules per year.
Gold: 150.00 USD per month, for up to 3,600 schedules per year.
Platinum: 300.00 USD per month, for 7,200+ schedules per year; contact Flowrev for more.

Bronze is the entry point for lower-volume organizations, while Silver and Gold raise the schedule ceiling for growing workloads. Platinum is aimed at substantially higher volume, though the 7,200+ threshold and contact requirement mean buyers should confirm the fit directly. The free plan is an option before committing, but its caps are not given here, so it cannot be compared against the paid schedule allowances.

Accountant practice plans are billed per month for a fixed number of client organizations, with all plans billed once a year. Launch costs 375.00 USD per month for 5 client organizations; Grow is 1125.00 USD per month for 20; Thrive is 2250.00 USD per month for 50. Each provides up to 1,200 schedules per year multiplied by the number of organizations. Adapt has custom pricing for larger or custom practices. These plans are for in-practice use, not individual resale, though client access is available; they suit accountants serving several clients, not resellers seeking to repackage Flowrev.

Platforms

Flowrev is available on web and through an API. Its cloud-based access suits teams working across locations, while the API and accounting integrations support connected workflows.

Who it's for

Flowrev identifies SaaS and usage-based businesses, membership organizations, construction, education, travel and real estate among its use cases. It is a strong candidate where accounting teams need configurable recognition schedules, linked accounting data and clear checks on contract changes. Organizations with modest schedule volume can start at Bronze; practices managing multiple client entities have dedicated tiers. A business that needs a schedule allowance beyond its plan should compare custom or higher-volume options before committing.

Pros and cons

Pros: Multiple cadence and calculation options cover varied recognition patterns, including custom schedules.
Pros: Xero and QuickBooks Online connections include accounting data synchronization, locking and one-click journaling.
Pros: Live check explanations, change history and reports for deferred balances and future revenue support review as contracts evolve.
Cons: Paid organization plans cap annual schedules, so fast-growing or high-volume teams may need a higher tier or custom discussion.
Cons: Accountant plans are restricted to in-practice use rather than individual resale.
Cons: Adapt uses custom pricing, so larger practices cannot assess its cost from a fixed monthly price.

Alternatives

For a broader category comparison, see Revenue Recognition Software. Consider Zuora CPQ if you want a paid API and web option with pricing based on product, scope, transaction volume, business model, regions and implementation needs. OneBill is another paid API and web alternative, with a free trial but no free plan.

Leapfin is a paid API and web alternative without a free plan or trial. Ordway offers a paid API and web option with fixed subscription fees scaled to transaction value. Zenskar Revenue Recognition is a paid API and web alternative with custom-priced plans and no free plan. Aptitude RevStream is a paid API and web alternative with no free plan. Chargebee RevRec is a paid API and web alternative without a free plan. TrueRev has a free trial and one plan billed annually upfront at 299.00 USD per year.

Verdict

Choose Flowrev if your team needs configurable recognition schedules, accounting integrations and audit-friendly handling of contract changes, and its annual schedule limits match your workload. Look elsewhere if you need a resale model for accountant services or cannot accept schedule caps and annual invoicing terms.
