Overview

Files.com brings branded sharing links, file-collection inboxes, browser previews or editing, and cloud-storage access together. Outside partners and non-technical colleagues can exchange files without accounts or a VPN, while administrators can manage access and audit activity. Download tracking is useful when teams need visibility into whether shared files have been retrieved.

Desktop apps mount cloud storage as a local drive, which can help organizations replace file servers or NAS. Transfers can reach 5 TB at full speed over any distance. Those capabilities, alongside more than 50 native integrations and support for every protocol, make the service a stronger fit for connected business workflows than for simple one-off sharing.

Key features

Integration and automation

A REST API, seven official SDKs, CLI, Terraform, webhooks, and MCP give technical teams several ways to connect Files.com to existing systems and automate exchanges. This is substantial flexibility, but organizations that only need occasional manual transfers may not benefit enough to warrant the price.

Security and reliability

Files are encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.2 and 1.3 in transit. SAML SSO, SCIM provisioning, MFA, role-based access, and immutable audit logs support centralized oversight. SOC 2 Type II and FedRAMP 20x Class A certifications add relevance for organizations with formal compliance needs. Files.com reports a 99.9% uptime track record and says it has operated for more than 15 years with zero breaches. Support replies in under an hour and connects customers directly with engineers, a useful commitment for workflows where transfer issues need prompt attention.

Pricing

There is no free plan. The seven-day trial has no feature gating and includes integrations, automation, and security controls, so teams can assess the full product before committing. Paid plans start at $199.00 USD per month, billed monthly.

Plan	Price and terms	Included capacity	Best fit
Starter	199.00 USD per month, billed monthly	10 Full Users, 50 System Users, 2 outbound connections, and 1 TB monthly storage plus transfer	Teams with a defined, moderate workload that can stay within the included users, connections, and monthly capacity.
Power	499.00 USD per month, billed monthly	20 Full Users, 100 System Users, 5 outbound connections, and 2 TB monthly storage plus transfer	Larger teams or heavier workflows that need the doubled storage and transfer allowance and more connections.
Enterprise	Custom pricing; quoted annually	Sized to usage; base quote includes SLA, HIPAA BAA, multi-region storage, and full onboarding; up to 8 storage and compute zones	Organizations that need a tailored scale, multi-region setup, or the included enterprise commitments.

Starter and Power are monthly commitments with explicit storage and transfer quotas, so teams should match the allowance to their real workload rather than assume unlimited use. Annual billing saves 12%; two- and three-year terms offer volume pricing. Annual plans include a full refund within the first 90 days of paid use.

Platforms

Native apps are available for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, alongside API access. The desktop drive approach is especially relevant for teams that want cloud storage to behave like a local drive; mobile apps extend access beyond desktop users.

Who it's for

Files.com is best for businesses coordinating recurring transfers among internal teams, partners, and systems, particularly where identity controls, auditability, integrations, or regulated-workflow provisions matter. Its user and transfer allowances can support structured team use, but the monthly starting cost and lack of a free plan make it a poor match for individuals or small groups with occasional sharing needs.

Pros and cons

Pros: External recipients can exchange files without accounts or VPNs, reducing friction for partner workflows.
Pros: Broad integration and developer tooling support both established protocols and custom automation.
Pros: Strong identity, encryption, audit, and certification credentials suit organizations with formal security requirements.
Pros: The ungated seven-day trial lets teams assess integrations and security controls before paying.
Cons: There is no free plan, and even Starter costs 199.00 USD per month.
Cons: Starter and Power cap monthly storage plus transfer and outbound connections, which may constrain growing or data-heavy workflows.
Cons: The Enterprise plan requires a custom annual quote, so it is less straightforward to budget against the published monthly tiers.

Alternatives

Choose CompleteFTP if a free plan and self-hosted or Windows-oriented FTP/FTPS deployment matter more than Files.com's managed platform; its Free plan includes unlimited users and a virtual file system.

Serv-U FTP Server is worth considering for a paid FTP server with a lower stated monthly price: its plan is 55.00 USD per month billed annually and includes 250 user accounts and 100 concurrent sessions.

Consider Serv-U Managed File Transfer Server if a managed-transfer server is the priority; its listed plan is 335.00 USD per month per server, billed monthly.

Choose SFTPPlus if a one-time purchase and a self-hosted server are a better fit; its file-transfer server with MFT capabilities costs 1900.00 USD per installation.

Globalscape EFT is another paid option for teams comparing file-transfer server bundles.

Cerberus FTP Server is an alternative paid FTP server with Professional and Enterprise plans.

Consider Coviant Diplomat MFT if workflow-based managed transfers are a priority; its Standard plan is 335.00 USD per month, billed annually at $3,999, for up to 25 workflows and 5 file-transfer server accounts.

Verdict

Files.com is a strong choice for organizations that need secure, integrated file exchange across internal systems and external partners, with meaningful administrative controls and an ungated trial. Its main reason to choose it is the breadth of sharing, protocol, integration, and security capabilities in one platform. Look elsewhere if a free option, lower entry cost, or lighter-weight file sharing matters more than that breadth.
