Overview

Physical cards and digital e-gift codes draw from one balance, so customers can redeem part of a balance or reload it across channels. Loyalty points, visits, and spend tiers can sit on the same account as gift card balances. That unified setup is useful for merchants who want gift cards and loyalty to work together rather than operate as separate programs.

Factor4 combines customer-facing tools with ways for staff and developers to manage the program. Merchants can sell through a hosted branded storefront, issue cards in bulk, use a browser-based terminal, or connect through RewardOS, its developer API. The range is a strength for businesses with several sales channels, though it may be more than a single-location merchant needs.

Key features

Cards, loyalty, and customer channels

The branded mobile app lets customers check balances and transaction history, reload cards, track loyalty progress, and add passes to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The hosted storefront supports gift card purchases and scheduled e-gift delivery by email or SMS. Together, these channels give merchants options for both in-person and online sales without separating card balances.

Campaigns and issuance

Campaign tools cover bonus value, discounts, buy-one-get-one offers, seasonal promotions, and behavioral triggers. Businesses can issue cards in bulk from a CSV with per-card values and activation dates, or send digital cards to a recipient list. These capabilities suit scheduled promotions and larger distribution lists; the available campaign types also give merchants room to vary offers.

Operations and integrations

The Virtual Terminal can issue and redeem cards from a computer without POS hardware, which is useful when staff need a browser-based fallback. RewardOS groups its API endpoints around setup, campaigns, transactions, and reporting. Factor4’s integration directory includes 197 connections across POS systems, terminals, gateways, processors, shopping carts, and other technologies, including Clover, Toast, Shopify, and Micros Simphony. It also supports multi-location programs and gift card reporting.

Support is available seven days a week. Published hours are Monday–Thursday 6:30am–8:00pm EST, Friday 6:30am–7:00pm EST, Saturday 8:30am–2:30pm EST, and Sunday 10:00am–3:00pm EST. Factor4 also provides card-level balances, activity dates, and dormancy reporting for merchants’ records and advisors.

Pricing

Factor4 uses custom pricing based on location count, channel mix, and integration. The company describes a low monthly program fee with unlimited transactions, but the actual fee depends on the business setup, so merchants should request a quote before comparing total costs.

The Custom gift card program covers the platform’s gift card program; businesses considering it should weigh the quoted fee against their location and channel requirements. The available pricing model is paid, with no free plan or trial described. Unlimited transactions may suit merchants expecting substantial volume, but it does not remove the need to compare the monthly fee and integration costs in a quote.

Platforms

Factor4 supports Android, iOS, web, and API access. That mix accommodates mobile customer apps, browser-based operations, and developer integrations. Businesses should confirm that their specific POS and other systems fit their intended setup.

Who it's for

Factor4 is aimed at restaurants, retailers, salons, spas, golf courses, wineries, hotels, franchises, and convenience stores. It is a stronger fit for businesses managing both physical and digital cards, loyalty activity, promotions, or multiple locations. A merchant that needs only a basic online gift card offering may find the wider program unnecessary.

Pros and cons

Pros

One balance across card formats and channels: Physical cards and e-gift codes support partial redemption and reloads against a shared balance.
Gift cards and loyalty share an account: Points, visits, and spend tiers can complement stored value in one program.
Multiple issuance and sales routes: A storefront, bulk CSV issuance, recipient-list delivery, and Virtual Terminal support different merchant workflows.
Broad integration directory: The 197 connections and named POS and commerce systems give merchants several paths to fit the program into existing operations.

Cons

Pricing requires a quote: Location count, channel mix, and integrations affect the price, making costs harder to compare without a tailored estimate.
No free entry point is described: Businesses looking to try a program before committing should consider alternatives with free plans or trials.
The feature set may exceed a simple use case: Merchants seeking only a basic gift card storefront may not need the combined loyalty, campaign, and multi-channel capabilities.

Alternatives

GiftFly is worth considering for businesses that prioritize a free plan and want Android, iOS, and web access. Its free plan has no monthly charges or upfront costs, includes 5,000 promotional emails per month, and charges 2.90% + $0.30 per card transaction for online Stripe processing.
Wrapped may suit businesses that prefer a published entry price and a free trial. Its Basic plan is 49.00 USD per month, or $468/year billed annually ($39 /month), and allows up to 3 sites and 50 new gift card activations per month or 600 per year.
Cadeau is an option for businesses that want a free, pay-as-you-go starting point. Its plan charges 3% per transaction and includes unlimited gift cards and designs, a branded embed widget, and Apple and Google Wallet passes.
eCard Systems is another paid alternative for gift card storefront and in-store programs.
Loopz Gift Cards may appeal to US Clover merchants who want a published Lite plan at 8.00 USD per month, with a 2% activation fee and a $0.10 fee per gift card delivered by SMS.
SpotOn Gift Cards offers a free gift card plan with custom design, e-gift cards, QR balance checks, and simple reporting.
Voucher Connect is a freemium web alternative that also covers tickets, giveaways, and a mobile app.
Valutec is another paid web-based option.

Verdict

Factor4 is a strong choice for multi-channel merchants that want shared card balances, loyalty, campaign tools, and multiple issuance routes in one program. Its integration breadth and multi-location support reinforce that fit. Look elsewhere if a free starting point, published pricing, or a simpler gift card offering matters more than the combined feature set.
