Overview

TestGorilla is a hiring platform built around skills-based assessments, screening, and candidate sourcing. It suits employers who want to evaluate applicants across varied roles, especially teams hiring regularly enough to use a paid plan. Its breadth is a strength, but credit charges and annual commitments deserve close attention.

Key features

Paid plans include more than 350 tests spanning cognitive and situational skills, job-specific and software skills, programming, languages, personality, and culture. That range can support hiring across different roles without relying on one narrow test format. Custom assessments are also supported, which gives employers room to tailor evaluations.

TestGorilla Sourcing opens access to a pool of more than 2 million skills-tested candidates. AI interviews are another option on applicable plans, at two credits per candidate. Resume scoring, qualifying questions, and custom questions are free screening tools, so employers can add preliminary checks without using the paid assessment library for every step.

Integrations include ATS products such as Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, BambooHR, Greenhouse, Lever, and Workable, plus Make and Zapier. Plus customers can use the open API to create custom workflows and connect other systems. That flexibility is useful for teams with established hiring processes, though custom connections require implementation work.

The Trust Layer combines an honesty agreement, AI-agent blocking, behavior monitoring, and optional camera snapshots and ID verification. Flags go to people for review rather than acting as a final judgment. TestGorilla says its security practices are SOC 2 Type II audited and its data handling follows GDPR. It also says candidate data is not used to train AI models and personally identifiable information is not shared with generative AI models. Images, video, and audio may be retained for up to six months; other personally identifiable information, including names and emails, for up to 24 months.

One practical risk applies across plans: credits are charged when a candidate starts an assessment and are not refunded if they leave before finishing. That makes candidate follow-through part of the cost calculation.

Pricing

Plan	Price and terms	What it includes
Free	0.00 USD per free; billed $0/mo	10 free credits every month, 5 essential skills tests, and 1 full access seat
Core	142.00 USD per month; $1,704 billed annually; annual commitment	350+ tests and 2 full access seats
Plus	Starts from $400/mo; annual commitment starts at $4,800	Scales with hiring needs and includes unlimited full access seats
Enterprise	Custom pricing	For complex, high-volume hiring; scientific validation, security and compliance reviews, and tailored agreements

The Free plan is a useful starting point for very limited hiring, but 10 monthly credits, five essential tests, and one seat put a firm ceiling on regular use. Core is positioned for smaller companies or limited hiring needs; its annual commitment buys access to the broad test library, but the two-seat cap and credit rules matter for teams with multiple recruiters or unpredictable candidate volume. Plus is aimed at larger teams with ongoing hiring, and unlimited seats remove that particular constraint; its $4,800 annual starting commitment is a substantial step up. Enterprise is the fit for organizations needing tailored agreements and formal validation or compliance reviews.

Support also rises with plan level: help center on Free, email on Core, live chat on Plus, and customer success support on Enterprise. The paid entry point is $142/mo (annual), so Core is not a month-to-month low-cost option.

Platforms

TestGorilla is available on web and through an API. API access and Plus custom integrations make it more adaptable for organizations connecting assessment workflows to other systems.

Who it's for

TestGorilla is best suited to employers that need repeatable assessment across multiple skill areas and can budget around annual commitments and candidate credits. Small employers with occasional openings can start on Free, while teams with ongoing hiring are better matched to Plus if seat limits or scale make Core restrictive. It is less compelling for hiring that is sporadic, highly price-sensitive, or likely to generate many started-but-abandoned assessments.

Pros and cons

Pro: More than 350 paid tests and custom assessments cover a broad range of roles, reducing the need to assemble separate evaluation tools for each skill category.
Pro: ATS integrations, automation connections, and Plus API workflows can fit into existing recruitment systems.
Pro: Trust safeguards pair behavioral signals with human review, while optional identity checks add another layer for employers that need them.
Con: Credits are spent when an assessment starts, even if the candidate does not finish, leaving employers to absorb attrition in the process.
Con: Core and Plus require annual commitments, and the jump from $142.00 per month to Plus starting at $400/mo may not suit intermittent hiring.
Con: Free is limited to one full access seat and five essential tests, so it is a trial of the workflow rather than a durable option for a hiring team.

Verdict

TestGorilla is a strong fit for employers running recurring, multi-role hiring who want a wide assessment library, sourcing, screening, and recruitment-system connections in one platform. Its main appeal is the breadth of evaluation and integration options; its main reason to look elsewhere is the annual spend combined with credits lost when candidates abandon an assessment. Choose it when the hiring cadence can justify those terms, and compare alternatives when usage is occasional or credit predictability matters more.
