Overview

Evoto brings shooting, culling, retouching, and delivery into a photography workflow. Its photo editor handles portrait retouching, background and color adjustments, RAW processing, and batch work. Watched folders and fully automated batch processing can help photographers managing repeated jobs, while bulk renaming and resizing cover routine file tasks. Exports include JPG, TIFF, PNG, and the original format.

Evoto describes its per-face retouching as smoothing skin and removing blemishes while preserving natural texture. That makes the editor relevant to portrait work, though its credit costs matter when exporting large volumes. Basic color adjustments, cropping, and file management remain free.

Lightroom Classic users can send individual images to Evoto and import or export Lightroom catalogs, a practical bridge for photographers who already organize work in Lightroom. Evoto says most features upload images to its cloud for analysis and processing and delete them immediately afterward; some features store data with prior consent. The company identifies ISO/IEC 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2 among its certifications and attestations, and says customer images are not used to train AI without explicit consent. Photographers with strict local-processing requirements should weigh the cloud workflow before adopting it.

Key features

Portrait retouching: Per-face skin smoothing and blemish removal are designed to retain natural texture, a useful focus for portrait photographers rather than a general-purpose image editor alone.
Batch workflow: Watched folders, bulk renaming and resizing, and fully automated batch processing support repeatable high-volume jobs. Most features charge one credit per exported image, however, so automation does not remove the need to budget credits.
Credit visibility: Most features cost one credit per exported image, while some advanced generative tools may cost more. The displayed cost appears before use, allowing users to check the impact before committing.
Free basics: Color adjustments, cropping, and file management are always free, making Evoto usable for simple work without consuming the paid export allowance.

Pricing

Evoto offers a one-time 7-day free trial with 50 credits for trying full features. That is enough for a short evaluation, but the limited trial window and credit pool make it important to prioritize representative edits. Paid annual subscriptions pair a credit allowance with a device limit:

Plan	Price and allowance
Starter	89.00 USD per year; 800 credits; 2 devices
Basic	149.00 USD per year; 1,600 credits; 3 devices
Basic Plus	269.00 USD per year; 3,600 credits; 4 devices
Standard	579.00 USD per year; 9,000 credits; 5 devices
Standard Plus	1339.00 USD per year; 24,000 credits; 6 devices

The Starter tier is the lowest-cost annual entry for an individual or small workload, while higher tiers expand both the credit pool and device count for photographers processing more images or working across more machines. Since most features consume one credit per exported image and some tools cost more, the smaller allowances can constrain frequent exports.

Evoto also offers annual rollover plans with Asset Hub Membership: Starter Plan-800 at 80.00 USD per year for 800 credits and 2 devices; Basic Plan-1600 at 134.00 USD per year for 1,600 credits and 3 devices; Basic Plus Plan-3600 at 242.00 USD per year for 3,600 credits and 4 devices; Standard Plan-9000 at 521.00 USD per year for 9,000 credits and 5 devices; and Standard Plus Plan-24000 at 1205.00 USD per year for 24,000 credits and 6 devices. Credits roll over with the subscription, which favors users whose usage varies across the year. Pay-as-You-Go lets users purchase credits as needed; purchased credits expire after 2 years. Enterprise plans use custom pricing.

Platforms

Evoto supports web, Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, with an app also available for iPadOS. Desktop downloads support macOS 10.13 and above and Windows 7, 10, and 11, offering options across older and current desktop systems.

Who it's for

Evoto's photo editor is aimed at professional photographers, Evoto Instant at high-volume photographers, and Evoto Video at creators and photographers moving into video. Its batch automation and Lightroom Classic workflows are particularly relevant to photographers handling recurring photo jobs. Occasional editors who mainly need basic adjustments can use the free functions; those exporting often should estimate credit use against their likely image volume.

Pros and cons

Pro: Portrait retouching, batch automation, watched folders, and bulk file operations address both image finishing and repetitive workflow tasks.
Pro: Free basic adjustments, cropping, and file management offer ongoing utility without requiring a paid plan.
Pro: Lightroom Classic workflows can fit Evoto into an existing catalog-based process.
Con: Credit consumption is tied to exports, and advanced generative tools may cost more than one credit, so heavy users need to monitor usage.
Con: Most features rely on cloud upload and processing, which may not suit photographers who prefer to keep image work local.
Con: Annual plans cap both credits and devices; the trial is only 7 days and 50 credits.

Alternatives

For straightforward batch conversion without Evoto's portrait-focused workflow, XnConvert is a freemium option on Linux, macOS, and Windows; it is freeware for private, educational, and non-profit use, while company licensing starts at 6.50 EUR for 100+ licenses. Converseen is a free, GPL version 3 option for Linux, macOS, and Windows. ImageMagick is free image-processing software available on Linux, macOS, Windows, API, and self-hosted platforms, with commercial use permitted and attribution required.

Photographers seeking a free RAW workflow can consider darktable, a free, open-source photography workflow application and RAW developer for Linux, macOS, and Windows. RawTherapee is another free RAW-oriented option for those who do not need digital asset management, printing, or uploading features. Canon camera owners can choose Canon Digital Photo Professional, included in initial software setup for EOS digital cameras and RAW-capable PowerShot models.

For a paid batch-processing alternative, reaConverter costs 49.00 USD per year and includes 700+ formats, image editing, batch processing, context menu access, and unlimited conversions. Windows users seeking a low one-time-cost option for personal use can consider ImBatch, which has free personal use and a 39.95 USD one-time Personal License; commercial use requires a license.

Verdict

Evoto AI is a strong fit for professional and high-volume photographers who want portrait retouching and automated batch workflow tools alongside Lightroom Classic integration. Its free basics make it approachable, and annual plans scale credits and devices. Look elsewhere if you need a primarily local workflow, want uncapped exports, or do not need AI retouching enough to justify credit-based use.
