Overview

Pomodoist pairs a full task planner with a Pomodoro timer, making it a strong fit for people who want to plan work and track focus in one place. Its breadth is appealing, but the free plan keeps completed and deleted task history to 90 days, and Android is planned rather than currently available.

Key features

Planning and focus

Planning spans an inbox, upcoming tasks, projects, timeline, kanban, and priority matrix, with filters, search, quick-add parsing, task breakdown, and CSV import. That range suits people who switch between list-based planning and visual overviews; it may be more than needed if all you want is a simple timer. A built-in Pomodoro timer adds configurable breaks, local sounds, focus tracking, and statistics, with custom intervals for people who prefer a different work rhythm.

Voice and teamwork

Voice input can create tasks and recognize dates, projects, and tags, while Pro adds voice tasks and subtasks. This is useful for capturing work without typing, though the speech-recognition features are a paid-plan reason to upgrade. Shared projects, task assignment, and activity history give teams a way to coordinate work within the planner.

Integrations, privacy, and control

Optional integrations include Google Calendar, Telegram Mini-App, Apple Watch and widgets, account sync, and voice input. Cloud sync uses Supabase and processes task, project, tag, reminder, settings, and focus-session data to provide the service and sync devices. The privacy policy says Pomodoist does not sell personal data or show ads; Axiom is used for aggregate website statistics with 30-day retention. The AGPL-3.0-only open-source license and self-hosting option may appeal to technically equipped users who want their own server, database, accounts, and integration credentials. Self-hosting calls for Docker Compose v2, make, openssl, curl, 4 GB RAM, and 40 GB free disk, so it is not the low-effort route.

Pricing

The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes tasks, projects, labels, the Pomodoro timer, and productivity reports. Its key trade-off is a 90-day cap on completed and deleted task history, alongside the absence of Pro features such as voice tasks, subtasks, speech recognition of dates and projects, and unlimited history.

Pro costs 29.99 USD per year, billed yearly, and includes everything in Free plus voice tasks and subtasks, dates and projects from speech, and task history forever. It is the practical choice for people who rely on voice capture or need a lasting task archive. Lifetime costs 99.99 USD per once, a one-time payment for all Pro features and lifetime access without subscription renewals; it suits those who prefer to pay once rather than renew annually. Pro Monthly, Pro Annual, and Pro Lifetime are also named as plan options, but with custom pricing.

Platforms

Pomodoist lists macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, Windows, Linux, web, Telegram, and a Chrome extension in beta. Android is planned for October 2026, so Android users should not choose it expecting current native support. Its broad cross-platform coverage otherwise makes it a good candidate for people moving between desktop and Apple devices.

Who it's for

Pomodoist is best for individuals who want detailed task organization alongside timed focus sessions, and for small teams that need shared projects and task assignment. It also fits open-source users willing to manage a self-hosted setup. Choose something simpler if you need only a timer, or look elsewhere if Android support is essential now.

Pros and cons

Pro: Multiple planning views, task capture tools, and a timer live together, reducing the need to split task planning and focus tracking across apps.
Pro: Voice capture can recognize dates, projects, and tags, and team features include assignments and shared-project activity history.
Pro: Open-source licensing and self-hosting offer a route to operate the service with your own accounts, database, and integration credentials.
Con: Free history lasts only 90 days, so anyone who needs a permanent archive must pay for Pro.
Con: Android is planned for October 2026, limiting current platform fit for Android-first users.
Con: Self-hosting requires command-line tools and at least 4 GB RAM and 40 GB free disk, which makes it a poor fit for users seeking a turnkey private server.

Alternatives

If you want another cross-platform Pomodoro and task option, Focus To-Do has a free plan and supports Android, iOS, macOS, web, Windows, and browser extension. Its 3 Months Premium in-app purchase is 3.99 USD per month; consider it when its supported platforms better match your devices.

Focus Keeper is a freemium option for Android, iOS, macOS, and web. Choose Pomofocus if you want a web or desktop timer with a free tier that includes finish-time estimates, templates, visual reports, and custom settings; its Premium adds projects, yearly reports, and CSV downloads at custom pricing.

PomoTimer is a free option for web and Windows. Session is available on Apple platforms and as an extension, with a free plan that includes unlimited sessions and rests, two days of analytics, and calendar events inside the app. PomoTodo offers a web-based free plan with unlimited focus sessions, tasks, projects, and boards, plus reporting over the last 30 days. Forest is a freemium choice for web, iOS, and Android. Pomodorome is for Mac and iOS, with free custom session lengths, daily statistics, sounds, and notifications; its Pro upgrade costs 5.00 USD per once.

Verdict

Choose Pomodoist if you want a capable task planner and Pomodoro tracker in one open-source, cross-platform app, especially if voice capture, shared projects, or self-hosting matter to you. The clearest reason to look elsewhere is platform or plan fit: Android support is not current, and a permanent task history requires Pro.
