Overview

Elementor is a WordPress site-building platform for people who want direct visual control over page design, from solo creators to agencies. Its broad toolset and free editor make it a flexible starting point, but desktop-only editing and site-based plan limits narrow its fit.

Built for self-hosted WordPress.org and WordPress.com, Elementor combines a live drag-and-drop editor with tools for themes, dynamic content, popups, and ecommerce. WordPress.com users need the Business plan to use it. Elementor also offers managed hosting as a separate product, and Elementor One bundles AI creation tools with monthly credits.

Key features

Visual building and content

The free plugin includes the core editor, essential builder features, and 32 widgets. Elementor advertises more than 100 widgets across design, marketing, and ecommerce, while paid plans add Editor Pro tools. Theme and popup builders extend the editor beyond individual pages; dynamic content can support sites with repeatable or changing information. The library contains 10 templates, a modest selection for anyone relying on ready-made starting points.

Essential includes Dynamic Content, but not custom fields or post types. That distinction matters for sites built around structured content: the plan can handle some dynamic work, but is not the right tier if those specific content types are central. Version 4's Atomic Editor adds Classes, Variables, reusable Components, lighter CSS, and single-div wrappers, tools aimed at more consistent design systems and leaner markup.

AI, integrations, and commerce

Elementor AI can generate pages, layouts, images, content, and code. Elementor One uses a shared monthly credit pool for AI generation, so its allowance matters when assessing how much AI work a site will need. Elementor supports WooCommerce store design and building, and says its builder works with more than 60,000 WordPress repository plugins.

Form integrations include Mailchimp, MailPoet, ActiveCampaign, Campaign Monitor, GetResponse, Drip, HubSpot, Zapier, Slack, Discord, and webhooks. Access is tier-dependent: plugin subscribers need Advanced or above, while Hosting users need Business or above, or Sell+ Pro or above. MCP connections can link sites with Claude, Codex, Cursor, and other tools. Some plans include collaborative notes for team feedback.

Elementor provides round-the-clock AI support with tailored answers, alongside a Help Center and a Facebook community of more than 150,000 WordPress creators. Enterprise sites receive threat monitoring, vulnerability scans, and performance audits, with a stated 99.99% uptime guarantee and adaptive infrastructure.

Pricing

Elementor has a free tier and no free trial. The free plugin is a practical way to build with the core WordPress editor and 32 widgets before paying, but it does not provide the Editor Pro plan allowances. Paid plans shown are billed annually and renew at the regular rate; the pricing page states a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Essential: custom pricing, billed annually; for a basic website, with one site and 57 Editor Pro widgets. It includes Dynamic Content but excludes custom fields and post types, so it suits simpler sites better than structured-content projects.
Advanced Solo: custom pricing, billed annually; for one professional or ecommerce website, limited to one site.
Advanced: custom pricing, billed annually; for professional and ecommerce websites, with a three-site limit.
Expert: custom pricing, billed annually; for freelancers who need multiple sites, with a 25-site limit.
One: custom pricing, billed annually; a site toolkit for creating, optimizing, and managing one site, with 25,000 monthly One credits.
One Agency: custom pricing, billed annually; an agency plan with unlimited sites and 350,000 monthly One credits.

Site quotas are the key trade-off: Essential, Advanced Solo, and One each cover only one site, while Advanced covers three and Expert 25. One Agency removes the site cap, but its 350,000 monthly credit pool is still an allowance to consider. Elementor Host is a separate cloud hosting package that combines WordPress, Elementor Pro, Google Cloud, and Cloudflare CDN; Elementor Host also offers CDN, autoscaling, and security.

Platforms

Elementor works on self-hosted WordPress and WordPress.com, although WordPress.com users need Business. Editing is limited to desktop computers: phones and tablets cannot edit sites. That rules it out for creators who need to make changes on the go from a mobile device.

Elementor says it uses dedicated security teams, Tier-1 providers including AWS and GCP, multifactor authentication, real-time monitoring, encrypted data, distributed infrastructure, and managed penetration tests. It also describes measures intended to support GDPR and CCPA readiness, including data minimization, need-to-know access, processor agreements with standard contractual clauses, and annual third-party reviews.

Who it's for

Elementor fits WordPress creators who want visual control over site layouts, agencies managing multiple client sites, and businesses building WooCommerce stores. Its practice-area and location pages, lawyer profiles, and resource-library capabilities also make it relevant to law firms. Readers comparing tools for that niche can browse Law Firm Website Builders; for dentists, see Dental Website Builders.

It is less suitable for anyone who needs mobile editing or expects to use WordPress.com without Business. Readers exploring the broader field can compare WordPress page builders, Landing Page Builders, and Website builders.

Pros and cons

Pro: The free tier includes a working drag-and-drop WordPress editor and 32 widgets, letting users start without a paid commitment.
Pro: Theme, popup, dynamic-content, and WooCommerce tools can cover more than page layout alone.
Pro: Advanced and Expert raise the site allowance to three and 25 sites respectively, useful for multi-site professionals.
Con: Editing requires a desktop; mobile and tablet users cannot make site changes in Elementor.
Con: Essential's Dynamic Content omits custom fields and post types, limiting its usefulness for structured-content sites.
Con: Annual plans renew at the regular rate, and the one-site tiers can be restrictive for anyone managing several projects.

Alternatives

SeedProd is a freemium self-hosted option with a $79.00 USD per year Basic plan for one site; consider it if that paid tier and its stated template and block allowances suit your project.

Zion Builder is a freemium self-hosted and web option with a free trial and a free tier that includes a visual editor, 50+ core elements, and 10+ library templates.

Beaver Builder is a freemium web option with annual plans for one, three, or more sites; compare it if those site-count tiers better match your workload.

GreenShift is a freemium self-hosted builder with annual packs starting at $39.99 USD per year; its Woo Pack may be relevant to readers weighing a specifically named WooCommerce-oriented pack.

Bricks is a paid web builder with a $79.00 USD per year Starter plan for one website; consider it if a paid one-site annual plan fits better.

Verdict

Choose Elementor if you want a capable visual toolkit for WordPress, especially when you need site-building, dynamic content, ecommerce, or a path from a free editor to multi-site plans. Look elsewhere if mobile editing is essential, or if your project depends on custom fields and post types but you are considering Essential. Check the annual renewal terms and site allowance against the number of sites you plan to manage.
