Overview

OptiMonk is an AI-driven popup and campaign builder for ecommerce businesses. It suits teams that want to create targeted onsite campaigns and measure their sales contribution; its defining trade-off is that campaign activity is capped by monthly pageviews, even when no campaign appears.

Key features

OptiMonk’s AI agent can design, write, and publish popups from a user’s description, then run A/B tests and learn from visitor responses. It can offer to roll out a winning variant, which may reduce the work involved in iterating campaigns; teams should still account for the monthly AI-credit and pageview allowances.

Campaigns include popups, embedded content, sticky bars, surveys, gamification, and multi-step flows. Targeting can use country, cookies, traffic source, cart contents, and browsing behavior, giving ecommerce teams ways to tailor messages to visitor context rather than show one offer to everyone.

Reporting tracks conversions, campaign-associated revenue, average order value, and orders, making it possible to assess more than just response volume. Connections include Shopify, Klaviyo, Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Google Analytics, Zapier, and webhooks. All plans also include MCP connections for building, editing, and publishing popups from Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor.

All plans include live chat support, which OptiMonk says usually answers within three minutes and is available in several languages. Campaigns use Amazon Web Services, with the features page stating 99.9% uptime. The privacy policy names OptiMonk International Zrt. as data controller and says employees sign confidentiality agreements covering personal data they encounter at work.

Pricing

The free plan is genuinely ongoing: it costs 0.00 USD per free, is billed Free forever, needs no credit card, and has no time-limited trial. Its 10,000 pageviews/month, 1,000 AI credits/month, and one-domain allowance make it a sensible starting point for a small site, but pageviews count every page load whether or not a campaign displays. Campaigns pause when the monthly pageview cap is reached, so the allowance can be consumed by ordinary site traffic.

Essential costs 19.00 USD per month, billed $228 billed yearly. It raises the limits to 20,000 pageviews/month, 3,000 AI credits/month, and two domains. It is the entry paid tier for a business that has outgrown the free cap, but the modest pageview ceiling may still constrain higher-traffic stores.

Growth costs 69.00 USD per month, billed $828 billed yearly, and includes 100,000 pageviews/month, 10,000 AI credits/month, and four domains. It is a better fit for businesses running campaigns across several properties or with substantially more traffic. Premium costs 179.00 USD per month, billed $2,148 billed yearly; its 500,000 pageviews/month, 20,000 AI credits/month, 10 domains, and key account manager suit larger operations needing more capacity and account support.

Master has custom pricing, custom pageviews and AI credits, unlimited domains, and a key account manager. The paid prices are yearly-billed commitments despite their monthly presentation, so the listed annual totals matter when budgeting. Every tier retains the same core campaign access, live chat, and MCP connections; the main step-up is capacity, with a key account manager added on Premium and Master.

Platforms

OptiMonk supports web and API platforms. Its integrations and MCP connections extend its role beyond a standalone popup editor, though the core product is aimed at ecommerce site campaigns.

Who it's for

OptiMonk is a strong fit for ecommerce teams that want AI-assisted campaign production, visitor-based targeting, A/B testing, and revenue-oriented reporting in one tool. Its free tier can serve a small site, while paid tiers make sense as traffic, AI usage, or domain count grows. It is less suitable for a high-traffic site that cannot tolerate campaigns pausing at a pageview cap, or for a buyer seeking a non-yearly paid commitment.

Pros and cons

Pros: AI-assisted creation and testing can carry campaigns from a brief through optimization, rather than stopping at design.
Pros: Targeting criteria include cart contents and browsing behavior, while reporting connects campaigns to revenue, order value, and orders.
Pros: The no-expiry free plan includes 10,000 monthly pageviews and 1,000 AI credits without requiring a card.
Cons: Every site page load counts toward the pageview cap, and campaigns pause once it is reached—even if the campaign itself was not displayed on earlier loads.
Cons: Paid plans are billed yearly, which is a meaningful commitment for a tool a business may still be sizing up.
Cons: The free and Essential tiers are limited to one and two domains respectively, so multi-site users need a higher tier.

Alternatives

Consider Picreel if a larger free pageview allowance and unrestricted campaigns, domains, and popups are more important: its free plan allows up to 5,000 pageviews/month and offers a free trial, though that pageview ceiling is lower than OptiMonk’s.

ConvertFlow is another freemium option with a free trial; its free plan allows five funnel campaigns with previews and testing, while integrations require a paid plan. Choose it when that funnel-oriented free starting point better matches the need.

Getsitecontrol offers a free plan with 10,000 monthly widget views and unlimited contacts, and is available as an extension as well as on web. It may suit buyers prioritizing widget views and contact capacity.

Promolayer is a web-based freemium alternative with a free trial; its Basic plan is 2083.00 JPY per month, billed annually, and includes 15K monthly impressions, A/B testing, and Mailchimp, Klaviyo, and webhook integration. It is worth considering when that specific plan and integration set fit better.

BDOW! is a freemium alternative with a free trial and extension and web platforms.

Convertful is a paid, web-based alternative with a free trial.

Popupsmart has a free plan but no free trial; its free tier allows 5K pageviews/month, one website, one live popup, and 100 email quota/month, making it an option for a smaller, tightly scoped setup.

Claspo is a web-based freemium alternative.

Verdict

Choose OptiMonk if ecommerce campaign creation, visitor-level targeting, testing, and sales reporting belong in one workflow, and your business can work within its pageview caps and yearly billing. Its free plan gives small sites a real way to start, while the paid tiers scale domain and usage limits; look elsewhere if uncapped campaign delivery or flexible paid billing is the priority.
