Overview

Drawstory can turn a story into a storyboard, comic, or animation, and its prompt-free workflow lets users upload a script and shot list rather than compose image prompts. It can handle scripts up to 100 pages, giving longer projects room to work within the stated limit. Script analysis identifies shots, characters, locations, and camera angles, which can help users move from screenplay to visual planning without manually extracting every element.

Character tools let users upload characters or generate options for characters described in a script, then customize them. The AI Object Remover can remove a selected object or character while preserving the original scene. These tools make Drawstory more than a frame generator, though the image-generation quotas remain central to deciding which plan fits.

Key features

From script to sequence

Script import, shot sequencing, frame generation, and shot annotations support a workflow from screenplay to organized storyboard. The assistant director's shot and scene analysis is useful for scriptwriters and directors who need a visual breakdown, while the option to create comics or animations broadens the output beyond conventional storyboards.

Characters, editing, and exports

Users can bring in characters or create and customize options based on script descriptions. Object removal can help revise a scene without replacing the whole image. High-resolution images and MP4 are supported export formats, giving users both stills and video output; the plans also include export.

Privacy and support

Drawstory says files are stored on AWS and encrypted in transit and at rest, and that scripts and storyboards are not used to train AI models or for purposes outside providing the service. Users can delete an account or individual projects, with data permanently removed. The company says it replies to email within 24 hours on business days; paid plans include priority support, while Director and Unlimited specify 24/7 customer support.

Pricing

Drawstory is freemium, with a free plan and a free trial. Its pricing note says paid plans start at $12/mo, but the listed Top-up plan is $16/month, so readers should compare the plan terms rather than assume the entry price describes that tier.

Plan	Price	What it includes
Free	0.00 USD per month	Free forever; 10 image generations.
Top-up	16.00 USD per month	50 image generations/month, chat bot support, one user, and export. No custom integration options or early access to new features.
Director	50.00 USD per month	500 image generations/month, 24/7 customer support, one user, and export. No custom integration options or early access to new features.
Unlimited	150.00 USD per month	Unlimited image generation, 24/7 customer support, unlimited features, export, and early access to new features. No custom integration options.
Enterprise	Custom pricing	Custom infrastructure, dedicated support, and scalable AI solutions.

The free plan is useful for a small trial of the workflow, but 10 image generations make it a limited choice for sustained production. Top-up keeps the price below Director, but its 50-image quota and single seat suit light individual use more than a busy project. Director's 500 generations may fit a solo creator with regular output, though it still allows just one user. Unlimited removes the generation cap and adds early access, at a substantial monthly premium; its stated unlimited features make it the broadest listed individual plan, but custom integrations are excluded. Enterprise is the option for custom infrastructure and dedicated support, with custom pricing.

Platforms

Drawstory is available on the web. That makes it a browser-based option rather than a desktop or mobile app choice.

Who it's for

Drawstory is a good fit for filmmakers, agencies, and creative teams moving from ideas toward visual direction, particularly when script breakdown, character creation, and shot sequencing belong in the same workflow. The one-user limits on Top-up and Director make those tiers less suitable for teams that need multiple paid seats. Readers who need more than 10 generations should budget for a paid plan, and those expecting custom integrations should look to Enterprise rather than Unlimited.

Pros and cons

Pros: Prompt-free script and shot-list upload reduces prompt-writing overhead for storyboard creation.
Pros: Analysis of shots, characters, locations, and camera angles supports the transition from script to visual plan.
Pros: Character customization, object removal, annotations, and image or MP4 exports cover several stages of storyboard work.
Cons: The free plan's 10 image generations are too few for an ongoing project.
Cons: Top-up and Director are limited to one user, restricting those plans for collaborative teams.
Cons: The listed Top-up price is $16/month even though the pricing note says paid plans start at $12/mo, so the quoted starting figure does not align with that plan's stated cost.

Alternatives

For a wider comparison, browse AI Storyboard Generators. Consider Boords if a free solo plan with 250 AI images per month and unlimited storyboards and scripts suits your needs better than Drawstory's 10-image free cap. GOGUL is another web-based freemium option, with a one-time 100-credit free balance that does not replenish and an 8-frame storyboard limit.

LTX Studio may suit readers who want both web and API platforms; its free plan includes 800 credits one time. StoryBirdie offers a free plan with 20 credits, one project, two screenplays, and PDF, XLSX, and CSV export, making it worth considering when those project and export allowances fit. Story2Board has a free 300-credit balance with credits that never expire, while its listed $9.90 one-time 1,000-credit option covers all image models.

Cygnus is available on macOS as well as the web, and its free tier includes 200 credits per month, two projects, all seven pipeline stages, and 720p watermarked exports. CinemaScape AI offers a free tier with two projects, 10 one-time storyboard generations, a screenplay editor, story canvas, blocking, PDF export, and five languages. StoryboardCanvas AI is another web-based freemium alternative.

Verdict

Choose Drawstory if you want a web-based route from script and shot list to annotated visual sequences, with character tools and scene editing in the same product. The free tier is enough to sample that workflow, but its 10 generations are not a production allowance, and the one-user paid tiers are a poor fit for teams sharing work. Compare quotas and the stated $12/mo starting price against the listed $16/month Top-up plan before committing; look elsewhere if you need a larger free image allowance or multiple seats at the lower paid tiers.
