Overview

Devin Desktop brings local and cloud coding agents into a desktop IDE, making it a strong fit for developers who want to coordinate agent work without leaving their coding environment. Its shared workspaces and review-before-push workflow are compelling; quotas and potential API-priced overages make the right plan important.

Key features

The built-in IDE combines syntax highlighting, autocomplete, and debugging tools with a terminal, extensions, codebase indexing, agent mode, and multiple model choices. That breadth makes Devin Desktop more than a control panel for agents, though it also means its appeal rests on wanting an integrated editor rather than a separate agent manager.

Spaces share context and Git worktrees across agents, helping keep parallel work coordinated. Support for the Agent Client Protocol extends work across models and agents, while reviewing diffs before pushing gives developers a chance to inspect changes before they reach a repository. Integrations include Slack, Linear, Notion, Figma, Sentry, Stripe, Vercel, Datadog, and Atlassian, plus editor extensions and language servers.

Devin Desktop is the new name for Windsurf. The company says the IDE, extensions, workflows, settings, and in-progress work carry over, which should make the transition relevant to existing Windsurf users as well as new adopters.

Pricing

The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free. It offers a light quota for coding with agents and limited model availability, but unlimited inline edits and Tab completions. It is a sensible way to try the editor or rely mainly on completions; the light agent allowance and restricted models constrain heavier agent use.

Pro is 20.00 USD per month, billed $20 per month. It raises quotas, opens full model availability, and adds Devin Cloud access. Extra usage can be bought at API pricing, so the subscription price is not necessarily the ceiling for sustained use.

Max costs 200.00 USD per month, billed $200 per month. It includes everything in Pro with significantly higher quotas, making it the clearer fit for users whose agent workloads outgrow Pro’s allowance. Paid usage allowances refresh daily and weekly, and extra usage remains API-priced.

Teams costs 80.00 USD per month for the team plan, plus $40/mo for each full developer seat. It supports up to 200 users and adds sharing and collaboration, centralized billing, admin analytics, and priority support. The per-seat charge means the base fee is only part of the cost for teams with full developer seats.

Enterprise has custom pricing. It adds highest-priority support, dedicated account management, SAML/OIDC SSO, centralized admin controls, and a dedicated deployment option; it suits organizations that need these controls rather than individual developers shopping for a low-cost editor.

Platforms

Downloads are offered for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Mac builds support Apple Silicon and Intel; Windows builds support x64 and arm64. Requirements include Windows 10 64-bit, supported macOS versions receiving Apple security updates, and Linux with glibc 2.28 or newer and glibcxx 3.4.25 or newer. Devin CLI runs locally in the terminal, complementing the desktop environment for users who want a local agent workflow.

Who it's for

Devin Desktop is best for developers coordinating several coding agents who also want a capable IDE, shared context, and a way to inspect diffs before pushing. The free tier can suit light use, while Pro is the practical starting point for broader model access and cloud agents. Those who need predictable spend should weigh the quota refreshes and API-priced extra usage; developers seeking only a straightforward editor may not need its agent-centered setup.

Pros and cons

Pro: Shared context and Git worktrees help coordinate agent work across projects, and diff review offers a checkpoint before pushing.
Pro: A full IDE, terminal, extensions, and language-server support keep common coding tools alongside agent features.
Con: The free tier limits agent quota and model choice, so it is less suitable for sustained, model-flexible agent use.
Con: Paid quotas refresh daily and weekly, and additional usage at API pricing can make spending less predictable.
Con: Teams pricing adds $40/mo for each full developer seat on top of the $80.00 USD per month team plan.

Alternatives

For a free editor with external-agent or API-key support and 2,000 accepted edit predictions, consider Zed. Qoder may fit those who want a $20.00 USD Pro plan and a broad range of listed platforms, including mobile and web. For a free plan with stated monthly gateway-request and cloud-agent-run caps, Creor offers a different way to gauge included usage.

Kiro, Cortex AI IDE, Devgrex, Hyperlane, and Tesseract are also alternatives to compare.

Verdict

Choose Devin Desktop if your priority is coordinating local and cloud agents within a full IDE, with shared workspaces and diff review built into the workflow. Look elsewhere if you need tightly predictable usage costs or a simpler editor: the light free quota, paid caps, and API-priced overages are real trade-offs.
