Overview

Deltek Maconomy is a cloud ERP that brings project operations and financial management together for mid-sized and large professional services firms. It is best suited to organizations with complex, client-billable work across consulting, architecture, engineering, marketing, or research. Its project-level financial control and billing breadth are compelling; custom pricing and a tiered approach to cloud extensions make it a considered enterprise purchase, not a fit for every firm.

Key features

Maconomy connects resource planning, project tracking, time and expenses, financial accounting, and business intelligence. Finance teams can follow work in progress, revenue, and profitability by project while supporting global finance and compliance needs. Hourly, fixed-fee, and progress billing, alongside automated invoicing and revenue recognition, make it particularly relevant where project delivery and finance need to stay closely aligned.

Time, expense, and absence tools support mobile use, approvals, and company policy enforcement. The Web Client handles tasks including time and expense entry, approvals, jobs, invoices, purchase orders, and reports. Mobile apps, offline tracking, timesheet approvals, and utilization reporting add coverage for distributed teams. Ask Dela answers natural-language questions about Maconomy data, while Smart Summaries offer overviews of project, customer, and financial performance.

Financial controls, audit trails, standardized workflows, and multi-entity compliance frameworks support organizations managing complex finance operations. Inventory and order management are also included, extending its scope beyond project accounting alone.

For Maconomy Essentials and Flex cloud offerings, Deltek supports integrations through its RESTful API and identifies third-party integrations as a capability. In the multi-tenant cloud environment, Deltek reserves the right to close API sessions that affect performance, a relevant constraint for firms planning intensive integrations. Cloud options differ in extensibility: Essentials has none, while Flex includes basic and intermediate extensibility.

Pricing

Maconomy is paid software with custom pricing, offered by demo request. There is no free plan. That makes it difficult to assess fit on price alone, so firms should seek a quote that accounts for their deployment format and extension needs. Essentials suits organizations that can work without extensions; Flex is the more suitable choice when basic or intermediate extensibility matters. Enterprise is also offered, but its extension scope and price are custom.

Deltek Cloud subscribers can choose packaged Customer Success Plans covering support, professional services, product training, and customer success management. The plan details and prices are custom, so buyers should clarify which services their subscription includes.

Platforms

Maconomy is cloud-deployed, with web access and Android and iOS support. Linux and Windows are also listed, alongside an API. The browser-based Web Client covers a broad range of operational work, while mobile tools support time, expenses, and offline tracking.

Who it's for

Maconomy is strongest for mid-sized and large professional services firms that need project financials, resource planning, time capture, and billing in one ERP. Its multi-entity support and compliance controls make it relevant to organizations managing complex finance across entities. Smaller teams with straightforward billing, or firms that need extensions without accepting cloud-tier limits, should compare alternatives before committing.

Pros and cons

Pro: Project-level work-in-progress, revenue, and profitability tracking connects delivery activity to financial oversight.
Pro: Hourly, fixed-fee, and progress billing support varied client contracts, with invoicing and revenue recognition built into the workflow.
Pro: Multi-entity support, audit trails, and standardized workflows suit organizations with demanding governance needs.
Con: Custom pricing and no free plan make early budget comparison harder for buyers.
Con: Essentials has no extensions, and Flex API sessions may be closed if they affect multi-tenant performance; firms with demanding integration needs should confirm fit before choosing a cloud tier.

Alternatives

For an alternative focused on construction CRM, consider Hyphen CRM, a paid option for Android, iOS, and web. Buildovate is worth considering if a free plan and Android, iOS, and web access matter. Buildr offers custom pricing with unlimited users and data, importing, onboarding, implementation services, and training; choose it if those terms better suit your needs.

BuildTools Bidding is a construction management option for custom home builders and remodelers, starting at 499.00 USD per month with a 12-month commitment billed monthly and guided onboarding included. CMiC is another paid option, with general contractor, sub-contractor, and heavy highway offerings. ConstructionCRM offers configured, per-seat deployment scoped to a team's modules and integrations, with migration, configuration, onboarding, and training included.

JobNimbus is a paid option with a free trial and Essentials and Premium plans. ProBuilder OS is another paid option with a free trial; its Solo plan is 49.00 USD per month.

Verdict

Choose Deltek Maconomy if your mid-sized or large professional services firm needs project delivery, billing, and financial control connected in a multi-entity ERP.
