Overview

DeepPurge inventories software, traces leftovers, and scores system hygiene. It runs locally without an account, telemetry service, or cloud upload, a meaningful advantage for users who prefer not to route device-cleanup activity through a service.

The project is MIT-licensed. Its security policy asks researchers to report vulnerabilities privately by email, with acknowledgement expected within 48 hours and a triage update within seven days. Security fixes apply only to the latest minor release, so users should keep current. The repository links to a contributing guide, but no support service is specified.

Key features

Review before removal

Before uninstalling, DeepPurge displays the software source, command, publisher, signature, and risk, then checks native uninstall commands again immediately before execution. That extra review is valuable when removing unfamiliar software or automating maintenance. Forced and batch uninstall expand its usefulness, though forced removal is a sharper tool than a routine uninstall and warrants care.

It handles Windows AppX and MSIX apps and names winget, Scoop, and Chocolatey as supported package sources. Leftover scanning can help catch remnants after removal. Junk Cleaner groups candidate files by category and size, while preview mode, age limits, and protected-path checks let users narrow cleanup before acting.

Recovery and administration

Deletion Recovery records how an item was removed and which rollback path remains, with dry-run restore checks before changes are applied. Preview and dry-run routes report intended changes without deleting; protected Windows paths, registry roots, services, and Microsoft task namespaces fail closed. These guardrails reduce avoidable mistakes, but do not make cleanup risk-free: secure deletion and some system operations cannot be undone, and Secure Delete does not claim to wipe volume free space.

Additional tools include disk analysis, startup management, repair routes, duplicate finding, and validated custom JSON cleaners. A scriptable CLI offers read-only commands in a normal terminal, with elevation available for operations that require it. The project cites scripts, Task Scheduler, Intune, and SCCM as use contexts, making it more relevant to technical users than to someone seeking only a basic uninstall button.

The Windows x64 release includes a portable WPF desktop executable and a separate CLI executable. Published SHA256 values can be checked with PowerShell Get-FileHash, a useful verification step for downloaded binaries. The v0.9.3 release is not Authenticode-signed, however, and Windows SmartScreen may warn; users uncomfortable verifying an unsigned download should choose another tool.

Pricing

DeepPurge is free, with no free trial because the product is offered as a free plan. That makes it a straightforward option for individual users and administrators who can manage a Windows utility themselves. There are no paid tiers to compare, and the trade-off is a project whose security fixes cover only its latest minor release.

Platforms

DeepPurge is a Windows toolkit. Its published desktop and CLI executables are built for Windows x64; the broader platform labels do not change that supported-platform scope. It is not a choice for Mac or Linux cleanup.

Who it's for

Choose DeepPurge if you want to review uninstall commands and cleanup candidates, retain recovery evidence, or script software maintenance on Windows. It particularly suits technically confident users who value local operation and can verify a release themselves. Look elsewhere if you need signed builds, guaranteed rollback for every operation, or a tool for non-Windows devices.

Pros and cons

Pros

Uninstall reviews show source, command, publisher, signature, and risk, with a final native-command check before execution.
Preview, dry-run, age-limit, and protected-path controls support deliberate cleanup rather than blind deletion.
Local operation, a portable desktop build, and a read-only-capable CLI suit privacy-conscious users and scripted workflows.
SHA256 values are published for checking both Windows x64 executables.

Cons

Secure deletion and some system operations cannot be undone, so recovery records are not a universal safety net.
The v0.9.3 builds are unsigned and may prompt a SmartScreen warning.
Security fixes are limited to the latest minor release, and no support service is specified.
Windows is the supported platform; the Windows x64 downloads do not serve Mac or Linux users.

Verdict

DeepPurge is best for technically capable Windows users who want a free, local toolkit with careful uninstall review, cleanup previews, and a record of recovery paths. Its strongest reason to choose it is that review-first workflow paired with scripting potential. Look elsewhere if signed downloads, broad reversibility, ongoing support, or Mac and Linux coverage matter more.
