Overview

Animations can show a person smiling, blinking, or turning their head, and work with both color and black-and-white photos. MyHeritage says the licensed D-ID technology uses pre-recorded driver videos to guide facial movement. The result is therefore an interpretation of how someone might have moved, rather than evidence of how they actually moved. MyHeritage marks animated photos with an icon to distinguish them from originals.

You can start from the Deep Nostalgia landing page, the My Photos section of a MyHeritage family site, or the MyHeritage mobile app. If a photo has not already been enhanced on MyHeritage, enhancement is included in the animation process, a useful step for older images that need it.

Key features

Portrait animation and export

Only faces the algorithm detects can be animated. When it detects several faces, you must animate them one at a time; this makes group portraits less convenient, and a face the algorithm misses cannot be animated with this feature. Completed clips can be shared through Facebook or Twitter, shared by copying a link, or downloaded as MP4 files.

Free access and watermark

Non-paying users can create several general animations for free after signing up for MyHeritage. That is enough to try the effect or make a small number of keepsakes, but it is not an unlimited option. Free animations display the MyHeritage logo; paid-plan animations can be logo-free. A Complete subscription provides unlimited animations and special animations.

Pricing

Plan	Price	What it includes
Deep Nostalgia free access	0.00 USD per free	Several general animations; free MyHeritage sign-up required
Complete subscription	Custom pricing	Unlimited animations and special animations

There is no free trial. The free option is the practical choice for occasional use, with its animation cap and watermark as the trade-offs. Complete is the fit for users who want unlimited output or special animations, and its paid status allows logo-free clips.

Platforms

Deep Nostalgia is available on Android, iOS, and the web. The MyHeritage app is free through the App Store and Google Play, so mobile users can animate photos without relying on a desktop browser. MP4 is the stated download format.

Who it's for

Deep Nostalgia is best for people who want a narrowly focused way to animate a detected face in a family or personal photograph, then share or download the short result. It is less suitable for group portraits that need several faces animated together, or for anyone who needs a faithful record of a person’s actual movement.

Pros and cons

Several free animations: users can try the effect without paying, though sign-up is required and output is watermarked.
Flexible ways to share: Facebook, Twitter, link sharing, and MP4 download cover common ways to pass along a short clip.
Automatic enhancement: photos not already enhanced on MyHeritage are enhanced during animation.
Face detection constrains the result: only detected faces work, and multiple faces have to be handled separately.
Simulation, not authentic footage: the animation suggests movement and should not be mistaken for a genuine recording.

Verdict

Choose Deep Nostalgia if you want a simple route from a portrait to a short, shareable animation and can accept a stylized simulation. Its free access makes occasional use approachable, but the watermark, face-detection limits, and one-at-a-time handling of multiple faces make it a poor fit for frequent or group-photo animation.
